Installed door locks on the patio door. Only took a year to get around to it! Now onto the side door...if only I could find the damn pieces that are laying around somewhere in the garage.
I'd be 20 years younger if I could get back the time I've spent looking for things I put where I would remember to look for them.Installed door locks on the patio door. Lots of old medicine bottlesGlass bottles at flea markets aren't cheap. Milk bottles go for crazy prices. At an auction a couple of years ago a guy paid $80 for an empty rusty one gallon oil can. That would be a retail price. Wholesale would be 10% +/-
Post some pictures
P.S. I like the yellow toys

How much?Speaking of door knobs, I did this before COVID, so maybe it doesn't count, but I installed one of these in my garage entry door so I can open it when my hands are greasy/dirty or carrying stuff. Worth every penny:
I didnt know these existed!! Probably because I have never seen them sold and cant find them on any sites for Cdn Tire, Lowes, Home Depot etc.How much? .........

I can only find them here (Canada) on Amazon.ca. Passage is $29 and privacy is $32 (for round knob type). Other styles vary in price drastically. Search for Brinks Push Pull Rotate (PPR does not show them for some reason)
Just ordered a passage one.
Killed thousands of caterpillars climbing two trees in the front yard. Every 30 minutes you could get 100 on the trunk.
This is an oak and a maple. Things weren't too bad before so I hadn't taped any trees. Taped those two this morning as it would suck if they died and was shocked at the numbers. Fwiw, maple has three caterpillars climbing for every one on the oak. The interesting question is does taping and killing thousands matter when there are millions? Probably not.A friend used some metal bands wrapped around the trunks and possibly smeared with some toxin. The trees were coniferous FWIW.
The theory is they get stuck to the tape. In practice I haven't seen many stuck anywhere, they don't like crossing it and either hang out or go back down. If you believe the FB fear-mongering stories, birds fly backwards into the tape, wrap their wings around the tree in a reverse hug and die.Was wondering what the tape Was around multiple tree trunks in the area…maybe it was to stop caterpillars climbing the trunk?
Thought it was possibly to catch flies / mosquitoes.

Nice. i just keep my rag supply close to the door.Speaking of door knobs, I did this before COVID, so maybe it doesn't count, but I installed one of these in my garage entry door so I can open it when my hands are greasy/dirty or carrying stuff. Worth every penny:
Killed another 500 climbing those two trees today (gypsy moth caterpillars). I have no idea whether the trees survive the attack or not without intervention. Even with intervention they are taking a real beating. Sadly, only in hindsight can you guess if you made the correct choice. I have lots of trees (including oak and maple) that I am not intervening on so we should be able to see a difference at the end (or not). There are enough caterpillars that you can hear them eating (or pooping?) from 50' away. It sounds like gentle rain. The lumber industry uses aerial spraying as does Toronto for widespread infestations. In isolated outbreaks I would do whatever I could to eliminate any bug I could to save my few trees. It also depends on whether the tree would survive the attack. Some of these things are cyclical and survivable.
What is the bug species and how long is the caterpillar migration?
If it was doable I would use some either toxic or mechanical device to eradicate the things. I don't know what voltage would turn them back but if a people safe voltage would turn them back I look at some transformer and wire barrier.
My neighbour had a Magnolia blight issue but it ran its course over four or five years and the tree survived.
Warning: Some years back we were visiting friends and they had a similar problem. Someone suggested we park under a tree to keep our car cool. The bugs crapped all over the car and the crap ate the paint.
I don't know if tangle foot for birds has any effect on the crawly things.
It's an interesting issue, at what point do animal rights come into play?
Thankfully, my war only requires a single stick I found on the ground and a few feet of tape. Material cost almost zero. Time cost could get out of control if you wanted to be thorough (I am ignoring the ones already in the trees and just focusing with ones trying to gain access)Have you heard of the war Aussies had on birds.....and lost? lol Took too many bullets and it wasn't cost effective.
