with the bulk of the renos coming to an end, I'm planning on building a 4 x 8 electric sauna in the basement in the fall.
anyone built one? what would you do differently? what are things you are happy you did?
I'm not sure. It's an old "banger brake". A tad more heavy duty than the new (good / light) ones. But no where near the power of the 'duct work' brakes.
I seem to remember buying 100' coils of .023" for siding / capping.
Give it a go, if you want (with some scrap).
My gazebo has become a little eclectic over the years. Don't mind the pink flamingos, those are the wife's last girls pool party lol.
The 2 electric heaters (in addition to the single pre-existing round one) are recent additions. The power meter spins fast enough that it sounds like a Sikorski in our front yard now, but F it, we're warm when outside now.
I actually have a lot more metal signs usually up in there but I took some down when I was adding wiring for the new heaters and didn't put them back up yet.
We have a 5'x5' pantry in the kitchen corner that the wife wants to turn into a butlers pantry kinda thing if anyone has any ideas on how to do this on a cheapish budget. Has a door entry into it from the corner so cupboards with drawers on bottom in a basic "L" shape and some type of wood top. Then a couple shelves above it. She wants the lower drawers for kids snack storage and the wooden top to move the small kitchen appliances to. Ideally a butcher block type top but I'm not finding something like that under $1,000. Was considering the bare cupboards from HD but after buying 4+ of those plus some type of counter top it's adding up. If anyone has any ideas or photos I'm all ears.

Laminate is obviously your cheapest counter option. Bamboo isn't terribly expensive and probably gets wife approval. I normally pick up bamboo tops from lowes on sale. I think IKEA may have them too.
Ikea kitchens are really hard to beat for value. Do they have a style that works for your wife? If so, do they fit the space well?
I like the appliances in a pantry idea. Add a disgusting number of outlets to make like simple. If you are worried about phantom power, you could probably switch them all so 1 flick and they are all dead.
I have built cabinets from melamine before and made solid maple raised panel doors for them. Melamine is not my first choice but it was already $1000 in materials to make the built-in to cover the electrical panel so it didn't make sense to use more expensive base material. Most people wouldn't look past the doors anyway. If you want a wood countertop, I wouldn't do stained wood doors (personal opinion).
I'm dabbling with building some sort of outdoor kitchen/bar-ish thing in a corner of our pool deck that goes mostly unused. I have a bar fridge that stays out 365 days a year that I'd like hidden away/sheltered versus where it sits now, and I recently acquired one of the countertop ice makers as well which needs to be sheltered when not in use. With those two things out there I'd add some of the booze collection out there and we'd have an official pool side drink station.
Two problems;
1- It's a pain in the ass getting lumber right now with stores closed and curbside etc.
2- We'd have to remortgage the house to pay for a few sheets of plywood and some 2x4's to actually build it.
This was built while I was out on a 300 km ride today. Wife wants a Screen in Gazebo, I called a guy.
she’s Happy and so am I. Could not rotate the picture

Cant argue about wife pleasing progress while you are out on a ride.
I would definitely have done some things differently. Some little niggles but my biggest concern is the beam over the door is only supported at the end. Roof loads are being transferred to 2-2x4 posts. Maybe they will be adding posts when they come back.
My Grandfather (paternal side0 was a clock nut, had at least a dozen windup chime clocks set about 60 seconds apart . Midnight was a complete clown show, He was mostly deaf, couldn't figure out why nobody would stay over night.

A relative made clocks long ago. I would love to track one down. Between the lack of documentation on the family end, passage of time and lack of knowledge on my part, it it unlikely I can come up with one. I have no idea if they were good or bad clocks.

Do you know the name he manufactured under, the American Clock and Watch collectors society have a pretty impressive data base.
I took my wife to the watch museum in Penn, she was as impressed as when i said we were driving to the midwest to see the worlds biggest ball of bailer twine.
I recently bought a "Berlin" clock , made in Kitchener pre war. They had the CP rail contract for station clocks , there should be a couple thousand around, but apparently rare.
My Trex decking is backordered till probably Labour day weekend,

Name is problem the first. Many people know that uncle xxx made and sold clocks but there are no pictures or paper documentation. Those old enough to remember are few and far between so trying to get whatever tidbits I can. Thanks for the lead on the database. Hopefully I can get somewhere. The only clock left from that time is a cuckoo clock that he didnt make, his were all sold and the cuckoo was one from the store.
The trex for your personal deck is backordered or all trex in ontario is sold out for the summer?
Those guys are amazing and I'm sure someone there will be able to figure it out for you.
I have approx 40 clocks (wall, mantle, grandfather etc). At one time I had them all running. It is impossible to sync them all so on the hour there was about 5 mins of various dings/chimes/gongs/rings going. I barely noticed it but the rest of the family werent pleased. I finally stopped them all, except for a select couple, after a conference call at noon was interrupted by the noise. Apparently clocks are much noisier on the other end of a phone than in person. Who knew.

We have about 4 or 5 old rotary dial phones hooked up to our land line. Some time when the Squeeze is out I'd like to turn the ringers on them all up to max.
Trex for my personal project is backordered, how ever so is several hundred other orders, Trex is about 4 months behind on production. The 2x6 sq edge is in supply, the premium enhanced groove edge is sold out most everywhere. Trex has also put distributors on allocation, so you'll only be able to buy as much this yr and you bought last yr. Zero growth in that product line this yr.
In reality I could filter it off what ever truckload shows up next , I'm in need of a pretty small amount, but I didnt type my own paperwork soon enough, so dealers will get first grab.
