Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

I also heard that ice damming is a sign that your attic insulation isn't good enough, allowing heat to escape into the roof causing the snow to melt and refreeze into ice.
Insulation and/or ventilation. With feet of snow on the roof, most peoples attic ventilation is almost non-existent. The mushrooms/ridge may eventually leak enough heat to clear themselves and breath but it will take a while.

Thinking HVAC engineering today , we have a low slope copper roof section that builds up ice and either rips off the troughs or just backs up, I’m going to install a space heater in that open attic space and melt it out . I am zero concern ed on cost , I’m tired of fixing it .

Is the copper exposed in the attic or is there sheathing? Does it have a vent at the top or is it dead space?

Copper is over plywood sheathing , the area is a [emoji6]ft by [emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]ft sloping triangle and sheltered on two walls so the drifts pile up. It’s a triangle shaped sealed box over the front vestibule.

Recommendations for some cheap lighting for cottage basement? It’s unfinished and doesn’t need anything fancy, but is annoyingly dark even with the old tube lighting.

Chicken coop collapsed I have some props in it for now so it doesn't crush them need to build a support for the middle. Would be a ok job in the summer. Sucks now as every piece has to come through the house

Aren't the roof pitches in the building code designed so that when enough snow accumulates, it starts falling off by itself? I've never seen anyone shovel snow off their roof in any of the Mississauga neighborhoods I've lived in.
From a reasonably trustworthy source in Orillia:

"Orillia is reaching record-breaking levels of snowfall so far this year, and we are all feeling defeated. I've heard word that a total of 9 barns in the surrounding area (7 in Oro, 2 in Rama) have collapsed in some way due to the weight of the ice and snow on their roof. Also seeing a photo circulating this morning of a house in town that has caved in.
😢

So…I did the right thing busting my shoulders and back all weekend…

It sucked but for peace of mind…I regret nothing.

And if the roof collapsed I’m sure insurance would be first in line to say parents didn’t maintain their property.

I cleared the open part of the deck as well as the kids playhouse roof. Kiddos saw me and waded through the 3ft of snow to play in their park. Good times jumping off things into huge piles of snow.

I'm thinking I'll clean snow off the deck. Not worried about the load but all the black residue that snow will leave behind.
For something so nice and white it sure has lots of pollution.

One of the reasons I wasn’t worried about falling off a 20ft ladder. 10ft snow piles I just built up from clearing snow.

Kids had a riot.

We just cleaned off the 3-4ft of snow off our deck, I heard it breathe a sigh of relief.

Same here 3-4 ft and it's not all light and fluffy. Just got back in. My deck clearing is going to run into 2 or 3 sessions.

Took a shovel to the snow on the shed. That baby IS NOT built to code. Worst part was wading thigh deep across the lawn.

Yup. My barn where tractor is stored in close to 1/2 km from house. Knee deep snow all the way, plus wind drifts. Was happy to see it get blown away with the front blower on my Kubota. To think I was considering selling it (the blower)
