Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Anyone have any experience with Smartplugs? (devices you leave in an outlet, controlled usually by Wifi connection).

I'm looking for a plug I can control from a desktop preferably, remote on/off, maybe some scheduling.

If you buy "roundup poison ivy" that is real glyphosphate roundup. Last time I bought it at Lowes.

As for vinegar, I used to use cleaning vinegar but this year I only had normal crappy vinegar. It killed most of the plants but not 100%.

Edit:
As for unobtainium, there is an interesting hole in regulation where the province bans the substances but the feds control the border and many things are not federally regulated. Some companies in the US will ship you stuff. Shipping will be expensive. Cross-border services like shippsy ban these chemicals as they don't want to put their business on the line so that makes cheap shipping much harder to obtain.
My daughter got illegal weed killer shipped in from friendly Manitoba.

I have some. A few are on/off only, a few are dimmers. Various brands. All i have require their own app which allows manual control, timers and some other crap i dont care about. None of mine can be controlled from a computer (maybe you could using bluestacks but that's a painful amount of overhead).

Fwiw, all have been remarkably durable and trouble-free. The biggest issue is all the different stupid apps and they occasionally log you out. I should not be forced to make an account to control my bloody light switch. Approximately zero times have I ever operated the lights when I was outside of wi-fi range.

Any brands which stand out more then others?
Since I have a Mac I might be able to find some that are HomeKit usable (Apple's home automation thing). Then I can use it anyplace.

Using, you can't prove no nuttin'

Informationally... Round-up with glyphosate is still available in garden centres last I looked (last season it was). By law (my understanding/AFAIK) it is not permitted to be used for cosmetic purposes in Ontario and it should be locked up and you have to ask for it. They are supposed to check on what you intend to use it on, damn poison ivy.

2,4-D is the one that is unobtainium... in Ontario.
I have 2,4-D Killex (out of province route) but even mixed strong it wilted my poison ivy but didn’t kill it.

I managed to buy 2 gallons of 200 to 1 roundup powder on Amazon last year not sure if it was a screw up listing but it showed up

Sent from the future
If it’s still available in your past orders send me the link so I can order some please.

I have about a dozen of the Kaza ones and they have been excellent and reliable. The phone app for them is also simple and reliable.

Geenii are OK and they sell them at crappy tire. I have three or four of them, mostly weather sealed outdoor ones but they have indoor ones for cheap too.

These seem to come up a lot doing searches online about smartplugs. Kinda will keep it as option 2 if I don't find something closer to what I want as they don't have a desktop app.

I have a few Wyze devices (cams, plugs, doorbell). I run Bluestacks on my laptop with the Wyze phone app and can control everything there the same as I can on my phone. I try to stay with the same brand of devices now as I couldnt remember what brand I had and which app I had to open to control different lamps/cams/lights/switches etc

Putting stick on stair treads on slippy floors for my aging arthritic pooches. Made the mistake of lifting one up a few steps a few days ago as I thought he’d given up. Little bugger is fine, just expects to be lifted over them now. 70lbs of mischief.

We bought a whack of them when we first moved into this house as the our dogs had never used wooden stairs before and were scared of them, I had to carry the young one up and down.. We not have them carpeted and the dogs are fine, but they are a good idea for us older folks and our older pets..

I've been going with vinegar/soap/salt for interlock. Or fire. Fire takes longer and comes back faster but is more fun.
That was out go-to until this year. We have a 30" viburnum hedge on one side, and a boxwood on the other. Turns out both are not tolerant of salt and vinegar -- both hedges succumbed, I started removing them as they’re 1/2 dead.

My old method was to place a black plastic sheet over the interlock on a sunny day. After 5 minutes in full sun the weeds under it get cooked.

Got a house full of them. They are super easy to control using Google Home for web, mobile app, IFTTT, or smart or speaker for control. “Hey google, turn the disco ball off”. I’m sure the Alexa use is just as easy. Most have a small on/off overtones button.

Any of the ones on Amazon or sold at big box stores will do.

Bosch dishwasher crapped out overnight.
Error 15. Water leakage detected.

Been there done that. In the last 9 years of its life,(purchased new) I think I have replaced the water inlet valve 2 times on this unit already. That's 3 failures of the same part on the exact same unit. A family relative also had this problem with their Bosch Dishwasher.

Thankfully the part is only $25 locally or $35 on Amazon.
I have less than 24 hours to repair this or else the wife will start filing papers...... lol

A hot sunny day years ago we had to replace a sealed unit in a bank of windows, ground level. We laid the new unit on the lawn while we removed the old one and when we came back the next day to do the trim work there was a square of dead grass on the lawn. Oops.

My wife would already be looking for a new one...her patience is thin.

I'm surprised, as I always heard that 'Bosch' is the best of all things in appliance.

I actually checked if I didn't get 2 last time.

The first question I was asked " do we need a new dishwasher?". Not sure if there was a good morning in there.

This dishwasher has been nothing but crap in my opinion.
Hated it from day 2. And that's not even from the fact that it has had the same part fail 3 times.
For a long time it wouldn't dissolve the detergent tabs, or the dishes smelled like the washing chemicals.
It also doesn't have a heating element to dry the dishes..
It dries the dishes by rinsing them with boiling water so they heat up and dry themselves from the temperature.

When the time comes, it's replacemebt will not be a Bosch.
