Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Are you done now with the siding?
Great job looks good!
Effectively done with the siding for now. All walls that are accessible are clad, and currently filling nail holes and painting / caulking the trim and siding.

As I wait for that to be done, may as well start the remaining projects (i.e.: shed) that need to be finished before the old shed is emptied out, and I can start work on the last wall.

Unfortunately it's not a single project that can be run as one (maybe it could), but multiple projects running in stages as things advance. Frustrating, unorganized, but it's coming together.

I need to soundproof a wall that runs alongside the stairs. I suspect that noise is transferring through the wall because the electrical panel is on the other side of it. There might not be any insulation between the wall and the electrical panel. My plan is to use sonopan with drywall on top. However, I'm not very confident in my ability to quickly cut the drywall to meet the tight deadline. I'm considering installing the drywall on top of the stairs at an angle and then cutting triangles to fit the stairs. Would this significantly reduce the effectiveness of the noise insulation? I'm also thinking about using green glue to seal the seams.

I don’t think it matters how you cut it, drywall is drywall and the small cuts to match the stairs won’t make any difference.

Cutting drywall is easy, especially with the small electric tool to cut drywall.

@mimico_polak You've done a great job on your home (based on the images) I'm very impressed.
You should be very proud of what you accomplished. Today with it being difficult to get reliable work done at a fair price I think we'll all have to re-learn. I'm in the process of buying a home on some land and I already know I'll have to much of the work myself on the home and the workshop/barn..

Thanks! Appreciate it.

I've noticed neighbours are coming over and stopping much more often than before the siding actually went up and asking questions.

My neighbour, the one that took photos from his roof of my deck, came by and after the third visit started asking 'hey, do you need a permit for that work?'

I knew he was going to ask it, just didn't think it'd take him that long. And then 'oh hey, I saw you have another building...how many can you have back there?'

Love him to bits...

@Jampy00 if you're ever booting through the area shoot me a message and come by if you want to see it.

What an A-hole. Tell him to mind his own business.

In the mean time, if you know his phone number sign him up for all the spam calling and duct cleaning and windows washing and driveway sealing etc etc services you can think of.

just kidding but he needs to get a life.

Old retired engineer with a cranky wife...I hope I never become him when I'm retired.

On date #3 my FIL said “ take a good look at the old cat before you get to attached to the kitten”. I laughed at the time but what you see is what you get.

So very true. One of the worst insults I gave my sister was 'you're turning into mom, and it's not cool'.

She didn't speak to me for days, and actually was ******.

I love my mother, but the first thing she said when she saw the recent update to the house 'your stairs need fixing'.

Not trying to defend your mom. But I think this might be typical old school eastern European mentality.

They seems to always point out the negative in things even thought the positive is staring straight at them.

Not going to lie. I find myself doing that at times too and I hate it.

Years back I had the back yard prepped for about a 200 SF interlock patio. Area leveled and tamper on hand. Complex pattern resolved.

9:30 AM: Bagged stone and screenings arrive in front yard along with interlock, many, many tons.

Make note, Hydro crew of four guys arrive to level manhole in sidewalk.

4:00 PM: Hydro crew leaving with manhole level. In my yard the materials have been moved to the back yard, stone is down and tamped, membrane in, screenings down, tamped and leveled, 3/4 of the interlock is down in an intricate rustic pattern. Mrs. nobbie arrives home from work, looks at the patio for seven seconds and points out one stone that is slightly off colour. I consider smashing my thumb with the dead blow hammer so my screams would drown out what I really wanted to say.

When she sends me to the store for bananas I take a colour chip the right shade of green. But I still love her.

My answer to that one is always the same.... you know where the tools are.

Mine is different but always the same as well......... A 2 second stare in absolute silence followed by a slow face palm and then and even slower walk to the fridge to retrieve a cold beer. The earlier in the day it is the better effect the beer retrieval has.

Well we made a change and now are the (soon to be) owners of 4.8 acres in Erin, ON.
Hence my heating with Propane question.
