Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

I did not. But I’ll go up there again and open up the soffits. Today we were fighting the clock.
On our last house I put 10 bags on top of the existing insulation in a 500 sq ft floor plate. I put up styrofoam baffles first and a tall cardboard collar as the depth was ridiculous.

Your hatch will likely be your thermal weak point now. In the current house I built a styrofoam collar that goes up two feet with a styrofoam lid. Main hatch should have weather stripping and positive retention (eg hooks and eyes pulling he lid down).

So what is more eco friendly, scraping the dishes into the green bin or into the sanitary sewer through a garburator with the sewage treament plant having to filter the solids out?

Obviously compost what you can is best.
I use the garburator. Composters are great, but I've never met one that didn't turn into a buffet for racoons -- if I didn't have a garburator I'd use a green bin.

Might not need to, your house is solid brick if I remember correctly, the brick and block likely goes right up to the roof decking with no gaps, if so there is no airflow from the soffits.

More importantly, did you add any skeletons or at least a skull for the next owner to find....

Weird….today the car is charging at 12A and the furnace is working fine with no issue. WTF!?

Electricity is pure black magic to me.

What were the issues you were having, missed it...
Car and furnace wouldn’t work simultaneously. 20A old fuse and didn’t look blown but I replaced it.

Today everything seems to work fine. Except I locked myself out of the cottage so had to break into my own cottage…ugh.

Took a lot less to get in than I thought…

I've always sensed that the house should have all projects finished and the cottage none of the projects finished.
LoL ya….I have many projects to do at the cottage that never get started.

House just got a new one. Not sure if it’s related to the insulation installation or not but it appears a crack either formed, or I’ve never noticed it before, along one wall.

FML.

Finally finished outdoor faucet install. I had roughed it in but needed to shut off the water to the house to connect it. First time I've needed to tap into pex. Pretty painless (other than needing to buy the stupid crimper that will only get used every few years). Lines dont drain as well as copper (probably due to all home runs). Next time I will probably use air to purge the line to avoid some drips.

Hold on, Furnace and what ever outlet car charger uses, are on the same circut? Also you have fuse's not breakers?
Yup. Old cottage with parents never updating it. Trying to talk them into letting me update / modernize it.

- remove wall panelling replace with drywall
- remove ceiling and replace with pine boards
- update electrical
- update panel to 100A breakers
- update bathroom from the horrible 70s decor

I suspect there is a wiring issue and he dropped the voltage below what the furnace was happy with. Were you charging with 120 or 240 mp?

120V at 12A.

It worked after swapping out an older 20A with a fresh one even though it didn’t look like it blew.

Is there 12 ga wire in there or 20A fuses replaced 15's on 14 ga? You could check resistance on fuse but it could have been a corrosion/contact issue as well.

Are you sure you want to renovate, not start again? By the time you gut, rewire, board, add an addition, etc, you are into a lot of money (and potentially time). Maybe keep the cottage as it is while your parents are around as it seems ok but tired and start again once it is your cottage.
