Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Haha no, I use the same cutlery and dishes every day. It would take us a week to fill that dishwasher and then I'd be without my favourite spoon and fork!
In university, living with a bunch of guys the sink was always full of dishes but "nobody" got them dirty. A buddy and I implemented project vulcan where we used one set of cutlery and one plate each so we could confidently say that nothing in the sink was our problem. The guy that was the source of the mess was ****** that he had to clean up his own stuff.

He didn't think to just use your cutlery & plates then?

@jc100 If you want to try induction/check out your pans, costco has a single burner induction for $40 now. They used to hover around $100.

when the kids were small and my wife worked 12hr shifts , kids and I would grill a protein and some veggies, turn off bbq to cool a bit and eat right off the top of the Q , when done, burner on high to cremate the leftovers and you each wash a fork , knife was sharp so I had it.
Spouse almost lost her mind when she watched my son open a can of Campbells soup , peel label and right on the gas stove, pick it up with an oven mitt and wash one spoon.
If they were messy after dinner and I would chuck the kids in the pool.

Ours were never left dirty. Washed right away. If they were in the sink, he had used them and left them dirty.
My wife teases me to this day…after any party at our place I would sometimes be so drunk that the first thing I’d do after people left is start doing the dishes.

I’m not a clean freak in any way shape or form…but having dirty dishes in the sink is a no go in this house.

Now the dishwasher does the work, and I’ll do whatever doesn’t fit in.

I replaced our defunct dishwasher with a bank of big drawers. Wife loves the extra space.
I wash most of the dishes. With two of us I can wash and dry a small batch in little more time than it would take to load and unload the machine.

Catch 22 I think a dishwasher is expected in a sale but there's only the two of us so one wouldn't get used or at least used efficiently. We like the extra drawers for the pots and never put in a dishwasher.

Some houses we looked at (normally occupied by multi-generational families) had a dishwasher hole but no dishwasher. They threw bags of potatoes/rice in the cavity.

When we replaced our old dishwasher the installation guy warned us that the new eco rated dishwashers can’t cope with really messy cookware and that they should be rinsed first, unlike the older ones that would chew up anything that rinsed off.

Stupid appliance. You had one job!

So what is more eco friendly, scraping the dishes into the green bin or into the sanitary sewer through a garburator with the sewage treament plant having to filter the solids out?

Obviously compost what you can is best.

A friend bought one of the TV ad countertop dishwasher things. Basically it was a tray with a drain, a lawn sprinkler and a clear plastic cover. It might work if you left it on all night nd you have a big enough hot water tank.

There's a heating cable used in winterized cottages but energy costs are high so one manufacturer came up with a new eco design at a higher "Eco" price. The cable actually cost less to make and the substantial energy savings were from insulating the pipe which was on top of the higher cable cost.

My friend is like that, she doesn't have a DW and has a curtain covering the space, and store's misc stuff under there. Hasn't felt the need to get one yet.
