Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

Sorry, we aren't selling. A pool is good for the first year or two. Then it's maintenance, maintenance, maintenance, even when you don't swim.

Here's the neighbor's garage after they jackhammered it out, and repoured it.
Probably the way we'll go in a few years if the resurfacing doesn't last.

If I was doing a fresh pour, I would be accommodating a lift. As the ceiling doesn't look that tall in that garage, probably a small pit to accomodate quick jacks flush with the floor. Inspector shouldn't be too upset at it is only a ~6" depression, you can't build up much vapor there.

Package them up for porch pirates. Label the box "Shake befre opening.
Poor skunk. I've got some fart spray I bought as a gag. It is so foul that it's not funny. The slightest hint of it and everybody is gagging. If I had a porch pirate problem, I would have no qualms about finally having a good use for that can.

That's what I told her. I don't want a pool at all, because I know I will get stuck with all the work and she will do all the swimming. And if I had a double car garage, I'd have two more bikes and absolutely no time for pool maintenance. It's a trap!

But I like that garage...

Toronto hasn't banned iceberg houses yet, there's still time. Apparently some people were doing what I was trying to get MP to do and building giant houses underground. Apparently that wasn't really regulated. They were building multiple underground floors and parking garages and the footprint below grade was often far larger than the house above. Property taxes are based on footage above ground, zoning is based mostly on above ground building, HVAC requirements are minimal etc. Other than the difficulty in getting natural light down there and expense to make the hole, there are few downsides.

I''ve caught skunks in my live trap before. Just approach the cage with a blanket in front of you then drape it over the cage. I then strapped the cage to my trailer (wasn't going the car!!) and hauled him out of town. Then reverse process.

Thanks again for sharing very useful info. I'll have questions, maybe at the next burger meetup if we are there. Otherwise we'll connect.
I know I'm late to the party but I'll add this anyway. A buddy did the sprayfoam and learned that it's also watertight so no vapor barrier is required. Or more correctly - it's its own VB.

With the right foam and sufficient thickness that's true, it is not universally applicable to all spray foam installations.

I probably spend 2-3 hrs a year on the pool the robot keeps it clean and the pumps, salt cell etc are all automated. We keep it at 90 from June to mid September using a heat pump.

I'm not sure if it's just Ontario but you're not supposed to move the critters more than a few Kms. You can kick them out of the house but not the hood.

Mine requires frequent doses of chlorine, and water. Neighbors have trees over it as well, so algaecide goes in as well.
We've talked about getting a robot, but haven't yet.
This year we've ordered a safety cover, but it's backordered, so won't be on this year.
Does yours add water automatically as it evaporates?

We use a solar blanket (bubble wrap) and I need to pump water out of our pool far more often than I have to add. This summer I had to pump out almost 24" of water and added none. Last year I had to pump out ~12" and added ~6" (pool was getting too hot so I left the cover off for a while).

Systems to automatically add water to a pool are a bad idea imo. I want to know asap if something is going wrong. You could spring a leak and not notice it until the leak exceeded the flow rate of your fill valve.

Am usually letting water out not adding we have a clear bubble cover on a roller and when the filter gets backwashed I adjust to water. Algicide is unnecessary all you need is clorine and cya the salt cell maintains the clorine automatically I check weekly but don't have to do anything normally maybe adjust the pH once a year. If you keep the levels right you should be able to tell if a quarter on the bottom of the deep end is heads or tails. The robot was the best money I ever spent it just does its thing and we live in the woods no issues.

We went from a 2800ft (finished) home with 2 car garage to a 5600ft (finished) home with 5.5 car garage and I don't regret it one bit. You always find ways to fill up a garage no matter the size.
I don't miss having a pool though. Wife wants one, and maybe one day I'll give in (when the kids reach age that they'll use it and it's worth it to keep them busy). Pool isn't too bad once you get a handle on it as they're all different it seems and my last one took about 3yrs before I had it sorted and figured how to hit it lightly with chemicals to keep it great without much work other than weekly vacuum.

Peel the label off a can of floral air freshener and stick it on the can of fart spray. Rig a way for the spray valve to lock on while spraying in multiple directions or rotating.

Good lord. I grew up in a 4000sqft home and couldn't ever imagine going back to something that large let alone 5600 + 5.5 garage. We're in a 2400sqft (finished) home w/ 1 car garage and I think we are on the same page about not wanting to live in a bigger house unless our family grows, but we are both open to having a bigger yard and garage. I do like your garage and all that open space for toys:)

A guy I grew up with owns his own pool maintenance company, so at least it would be set up right if we ever went that route.

Too complicated. I just need to pierce the can when the box opens (or have it pre-pierced with a plug that falls out). It only needs to work once. Something like a jar with a screw lid and piercing nail with oring would be simple. Screwing the lid on the jar "arms" it and removing the lid opens the gates of hades.
