Enbridge is unbelievable!

What do you expect? We have more important things to do, then running out to your business turning off and on a gas meter, so you can save a few bucks.

What I would expect would be to not have to pay $1000 per year for nothing

My business name is on the bill. My insurance company won't insure without a hook up, landlord won't rent without insurance.

Then it's not Enbridges fault, or the landlords, its your insurance company that is causing you this problem.

Yeah, but who's easier to blame?

At my unit they won't cancel because the landlord must make the call. My landlord won't make the call because for insurance purposes the gas must be connected to the furnace incase of pipes freezing etc in the winter. I've been paying $87 per month for the last two years without turning anything on. Been at this unit for 12 years in total, used to put heat on in the winter, but the machinery keeps everything reasonably warm.

$87 a month for a pilot light.

I owned and occupied the unit. Wet sprinklers etc.

So, running out to my unit to read zero usage is an important thing to do?

Lmao, that won't make any different. The pilot probably uses 5 bucks of gas a yr.

A little more when you factor in the heat load in the cooling season, but yeah, still negligible.

I was being facetious - point is it costs me an average of $1000 per year for no gas.

Sounds like a great point to bring up when you call your insurer

it's a commercial unit, more then likely has a couple unit heaters. They are located so high the heat load is going to be zero for the surrounding air ground level.

The meter readers don't turn on or off gas meters, and they are out there reading other meters any ways, so it isn't as though they are making a trip just for your Meters. It would be me or another fitter going out to do it, and fixing leaks all day is more important then turning off your meter.
