Enbridge is unbelievable!

Got my latest bill for the past month:

Total gas usage: 39m^3
Total gas charge: $3.67
Transportation to Enbridge: $2.29
Delivery to you: $3.15

Customer Charge: $20 * (a fixed amount charged monthly per meter to recover a portion of the fixed costs that Enbridge incurs to keep our system available).

FFS, I am better off running off of propane and keeping a tank in my yard. $3.67 in gas and $25.50 in a 'customer charge' and delivery fees!? What kind of crap is this?

What is the point in lowering one's usage at all since the actual cost of gas is minimal?

enbridge took six months to finally, finally, correct billing errors that they made last year.

they are inept, and rob us blind. only wish the fixed contracts weren't equally dodgy.

I used 108 m^3 and I take it my gas supply charge is just $10 but $30 of it is some sort of crap to run Enbridge's operatiion.

anyone surprised enbridge didn't keep that extra charge hidden?
It was always there. Now they doubled it and act as though it's a new cost to them passed on to you. It is not the commodity that went up in price and therefore not part of inflationary cost of fuel.

I was thinking of getting an electric water Heater and canceling the gas service during May to September. I doubt it's possible?

Keep an eye on your barometric pressure factor (PEF). Union Gas had mine set @1.65 in reality is was supposed to be around ~1.0.

I tried that with my industrial unit and they threatened massive reconnect and disconnect fees.

Enbridge spends 10's of millions of dollars in infrastructure, are they suppose to do it free. You guys can get electric water tanks, furnaces ect, and it will cost you guys 5 times more. The problem is, no one sees the money Enbridge spends on infrastructure. They change any where from 40 000 to 60 000 meters a yr and that's just the ones mandated by measurement Canada, that doesn't include regulator failures, meter sizes, ect. Enbridge has been doing a main replacement program since 1990 and it's just finishing this yr. No one is forcing anybody to have gas appliances, everyone is free to go electric, oil ect. Enbridge is also a distribution company, they don't make any money on the sale of gas.

Actually it is possible. You can ask Enbridge to lock your meter in the spring, and have it reactivated in the fall, but there will be an unlock charge, plus an electric water heater will cost you more to run.

You will pay a rental fee on the propane tank, plus delivery charges, ect, again it will cost you a lot more that way.

That is all fine and dandy, but why isn't the cost proportional to the amount used?
Pyscho, up above, used nearly 3x as much fuel as me but only paid 54% more than what I paid while his cost should be 150% of what I pay.

I try to be frugal, but it is pointless in this province. Drive a small car, get screwed by insurance. Cut back on natural gas, still pay the same for 'customer charges'.

Enbridge should be forced to figure out how much it really costs to deliver a cubic meter of fuel and charge that much by the meter... not charge per meter plus plus plus.

And so are his gas fees... my complaint is with the customer fee. If they charged a rated customer fee I wouldn't bother complaining.

isn't it kinda like if you talk on cellphone for 5 seconds, still get charged a minute. enbridge has a monoply so it can charge what it charges.

A cellphone contract would almost be comparable if the user fees were 6x that of the actually usage.... like my $20 fee for using $3.60 gas.

An monopoly are you serious. First of all they are regulated by the Ontario energy board, they have to apply for increases, and many times are turned down, and in case you can't read, I will type this slower just for you. Enbridge does not make any money from the sale is gas, they sell it to us for exactly what they pay for it.

Big friggin deal when the customer charge is 6x the gas price and the delivery is 2x the gas price. They might as well give the gas for free.
