Eaton Center shooting

all I got out of this was public housing is a bad idea don't raise your kids in it. Public housing may be a good temporary solution idea on paper but once people get public housing it's cheaper than buying a house and most have no incentive to upgrade in the long term.

I think the effective range of a paint-ball gun is about 30 feet..soo... :-p

My Tippmann X7 has an effective range of about 75 feet. (Best friend and I at cottage, blah blah blah, empty water bottles...you know the rest)

Paintballs are also liquid filled. Sometimes they can spin in any direction they please. Thus making it harder to predict where the round is going to go.

I fully support teaching safe handling and teaching respect of guns. it should be taught to all kids, we would have less accidents.

Why not combine sex ed and safe gun practices in one class? Kids can roll condoms on to the barrel of the gun instead of those stupid bananas.

I grew up in a house with guns... It was my parents that taught me safe gun control when I was a kid. This should be normal for any home that has a gun. It also takes away the mystique about those things locked up in a cabinet.
Best way to educate is to actually educate, and not just say "guns are evil". As seen in posts here.

Some people get all pissy when I refer to a gun as a 'weapon.' They want to treat it like a saw or a hammer; just as a tool. Well it is a weapon and I find that reminding myself of that fact, makes me a safer owner.

you might run into a problem with certain religious groups. though sex ed should be taught a lot sooner than it is, i remember a girl in my grade nine class convinced that if her bf pulled out she wouldn't get pregnant, guess who had to drop out because she got pregnant?

So all gang members are now going to get fired from their Government Jobs. Everyone lock up your bikes, they are going to have to make a living another way :(

its one thing to sit there with all the time in the world and pluck away at a target in a gun range where you're calm as a Hindu cow.... a little different when adrenaline is making the decisions for you, your target is moving, theres other people in the way, etc, etc etc.

Some of the articles state it was only by happen-stance that the shooter ran into the victims, who apparently were involved in a brutal robbery/beating/stabbing of said shooter months prior... so adrenaline/fear gets someone all jacked up, they draw a gun and then its chaos and by- standers get shot...

There was an incident in Montreal not that long ago where cops shot and killed an innocent on the way to work during an encounter with a mentally-ill patient so even so called "professionals" are prone to pretty bad accuracy in a trauma situation

now i know why i never see black people at gun ranges, they already have illegal firearms. lol. btw this is not a racist joke. it's just an observation.

the shooter in this particular case was from Guyana, so technically this would be a brown person

Anything can be used as a weapon. A hammer, a knife, a baseball bat, my fist, etc.
The amazing thing is, there was a recent killing with an icepick but I never hear people scared of them. Guns are also used as a hunting tool. But we generally don't hear too much about that

A hunting tool, lol... I'm all for guns being allowed in the hands of responsible owners but calling it a "tool" and not a weapon is stretching it, even for me.

You have completely missed the point. A baseball bat was created to play a game. An ice pick was made to break small pieces of ice off a larger block. A hammer was made to drive nails.

A firearm was invented to be a better way of killing people.

Using the other items, as weapons, it to use them for a purpose other than that for which they were designed. Using a gun to kill people is to use it for the purpose, for which it was designed. Sure, you can use it to plink at the range (practice at killing) or to hunt (killing things other than people), but that doesn't change the purpose for which it was originally created. To lose sight of that is to obfuscate, and to treat the item with less respect than it deserves.
