Eaton Center shooting

I know I'm not pullin' out my cell phone when the bullets go flyin'.. I'm looking for cover and exits

hell yes, agreed.

if i was young and didn't know better, maybe i'd have the video rolling. but when you're older, have a wife and kids, you don't think of such frivolous things first--my first priority is protecting the lives of my family and then anyone within range that i can help. . .human life first, voyeuristic exploits way, way down on the list.

condolences to the family of the victim, and to those affected by this criminal act.

i used to spend quite a great deal of time as a teen and young adult in that exact area of the eaton centre, and can only imagine the chaos that would have prevailed yesterday. that area is very open and gunshots would have been loud and echoed across a huge area. a lot of people would have been involved in the concomitant panic that ensued. i am not surprised that the shooter got away in the confusion and throngs of people that would have been heading for the exits. the mall is so large that the police presence there would not have had much opportunity to attend before it was all over.

things certainly have changed in our fair city.

Hope the mall has some type of surveillance camera footage so we can put a face to this coward.

things like this in USA, people won't even flinch. they will be like "wodie do, just another shooting, now where's my coffee?"

Not sure how to even compare our world with the U.S. way of doing things. When i go south,i stay at a friends place in S.C. He carries a 9mm in his pocket everywhere we go (except bars) and his wife carries a little 38 same way. The monster 44 Ruger with 13 clip stays at home. All of them with hollow ponts btw.The only difference between us and them,is that up here it's only the bad guys that have the weapons for the most part.

there will be witnesses, even if there isn't video footage to be had. whether those witnesses will be reliable is another thing.

given the very public nature of this crime, i suspect that the perp expects to be caught.

it's facts like this that i have to push to the back of my mind whenever i travel to the u.s.

occasionally, i do wonder who's carrying when i'm out and about in the streets of chicago, nyc, etc. i guess you can never know.

if this shooting happened in the u.s., then yeah, maybe a bystander pulls out his/her weapon and caps the 'bad-guy' (but not until the target is already down, let's face it, no one can react that fast). . .but i have to wonder if the collateral damage increases as well.

An armed society is a polite society. I heard the shooter was turning his life around and wanted to be an architect and the only pictures of him the media can find are when he was 7 years old

What? That they have a greater ratio of law abiding citizens to criminals carrying firearms? I'm not a big fan of that country's policies, but that's one they got right.

no, the fact that there are millions carrying, and i'm not one of them. when in canada, we follow canadian laws. when in the u.s., as an american, we follow american laws. when we are canadians visiting the u.s., what then? if some bad stuff goes down, we don't have the same options that americans do.

i wonder if we are just big targets sometimes for the bad guys. . .if a crew is driving around setting up car jackings, i imagine an ontario license plate just screams 'easy mark' to them. . .

All right by me if all gangstah shootings were confined to the ghetto areas and the only ones getting shot were gangstahs. So yeah, when shootings happen outside and regular citizens get shot, it's big news.

***Sigh*** so sad you think shootings are alright so long as it's "gangsta" on "gangsta" shootings. What you classify as a "gangsta" interest me but this is not the place for that debate.

As a Canadian you can take a CCW course and carry in many states.

I just wanted to point out another interesting tidbit in this entire mess.. There were no reports of the accused reloading his firearm, but there were reports of 15 shots fired. All legal handguns in Canada are restricted to 10 rounds. Yeah, more restrictions on legal firearm owners will prevent this from evAr happening again

I was in the upper level of the mall when it happened. Absolutely crazy scene, people running for their lives. It's bad enough these guys are shooting each other but when innocent bystanders get caught in the middle, it's absolutely disgusting.

could be this, could be he had two guns. . .

nah, somehow doubt this guy got his guns legally.

Thought Miller and McGoofy banned the "GUN"...guess it didn't work.

Actually, he took his firearm safety course, passed his PAL and rPAL exams with flying colors, paid $80 for the application, passed all RCMP background checks and interviews (including reference interviews), waited for 6 weeks, got his rPAL in the mail, drove up to Elwood Epps, picked up a Glock 17 and a crate of ammo once he got his ATT from the CFO to take the restricted firearm home, found out that there was a manufacturing defect in the magazine and that it could take 15 rounds as opposed to legally prescribed 10 rounds, got his ATT to take it to the local mall gunsmith, when he got attacked by a gangbanger and a bunch of zombies so he had to defend himself :D
