Looking for a sports-bike just wanting to know about the reliability issues, driveability, road manners, and maintenance.

Ive been reading for days about the Ducati 749/848 and everyone says the 749 is the most expensive to maintain/upkeep and that it needs valve adjusting every 7500km's Also the 848 isn't as bad as a 749 in that the service intervals are farther apart, there are less problems with motor/clutch (dry clutch) however the downside is that regular maintenance costs about the same. I don't know if this is true this is what Im asking Ducati owners.

Secondly I hear nothing but good things about the big 4 Reliability, ease of use etc.... i'd like some insight on that as well.

Last but not least out of all of the bikes mentioned which would you choose to own and why?

Thank-you

LR

Rode all those bikes apart from the gsxr. You cant go wrong with the duc 848, great engine, L twin, great looks, amazing breaks...

You are comparing a Mercedes to a Dometic Car....a ducati is a higher end bike.....your paying a premium for the name / features etc.

But the JAP SS bikes will do the same thing that a a DUC can do ; but its generic....

Crash a Jap bike - you can find parts and get it going in a few week and your not out of pocket too much ; crash a DUC...now its big bucks!

Looking for a sport bike? What do you ride? Why do you want a sport bike? What is it going to be used for? tour / track days / racing etc?

I have a Harley Davidson 883 sportster, im gonna use it when i feel like handling and going fast.

ducati hands down. If you don't want to keep up with meticulous maintanance get the CBR

Ride all three and your decision will be easy... 848. The other two aren't even in the same postal code.

just got my ducati 749 dark and i love this thing! but the 848 much less maintenance and looks much better

i've never ridden the 848 but if i had the money i'd take the duc hands down. you can't beat the sound and the superior craftsmanship.

oh and it looks sexy as ****

As someone said above... silly comparison. You simply cannot compare a premium product to a domestic one.

Choose the hot girlfriend - expensive to keep up and will cause worry, but the looks/flash/rarity is a major turn on.
Or
The cute girlfriend - less expensive, less worry, doesnt stick out as much, but the reliability and ease is a turn on.

Now, just curious, did you need to go out and start another thread about purchasing bikes...

http://www.gtamotorcycle.com/vbforu...-2011-Triumph-Daytona-675&highlight=rinomato1 and

http://www.gtamotorcycle.com/vbforu...27-Undecided-and-Confused&highlight=rinomato1

Just a suggestion here: you may want to sit yourself down and perhaps make a list of bikes you'd like to ask about and put them all into one thread as it would be more manageable for you rather than having to check 3 or more threads.

Everyone says the 749 is th most expensive..... BS
talk to people who own it

I own both ducs and the premiss that the duc is high maintenance is crap> my 749 had the valves done at 19000k
other then oil changes and belts being done every 2 years which is a 2 hour job that you can do youself , that is all the maintenance i have done and both bikes run on the track.

Since its going to be a garage queen...might as well get the most expensive one. If you want something you an use and is cheap to run...get a JAP. If not get a DUC.

For my money, it would be the GSXR750, (-the 848 is nice, but is it $6000.00 nicer?).

If you're doing a lot of track days, any 600 would be ideal---but the 750 doesn't cost that much more, (-I think Snow City has new 2011's for 10,500), and handles similarly.

If you want something a little different, the Triumph 675 has a lot of character. I rode one back-to-back with an 848, and prefered the English bike. It's fantastic and also reasonably priced, IMO.

750

to be honest you cant go wrong with any of the bikes
mentioned. i chose my cbr for a reason... needed something comfy, reliable, sounds good, cheap parts.

You say Duc's arent high maintanence and then go on to prove that they are. The Jap bikes valves will still be good at 19000k and definetly dont need a timing chain every 2 years if ever.

I have nothing against Ducati, they are really nice bikes. But dont try and sugar coat the maintanence compared to Jap bikes.

OP, just get whatever bike you like the best and sit on all of them because some might not fit you as good as others.
