Dual Fuel Generators

For those on septic systems, flushing the toilet with stored water or using a generator to power the well pump to get more is one thing, but dumping all sorts of effluent into the septic, but not feeding any power to the pump to get those liquids out to the leach fields can get messy quick.

I think a lot of people who aren't necessarily septic savvy just kind of forget about that part of the system, and how it just works 99.9% of the time despite them never seeing or hearing it.

I'm sure when the power came back on a lot of high-level alarms were blaring at a lot of places on septic. Hopefully no code brown messes in their yards before that.
For the septic systems I have had to deal with, only one had a pump as part of the main system. They others had pit pumps to go from basement fixtures to tank but everything from the main floor to tank to weeping bed was gravity.

Power at cottage still out, HO says back on 8/4 at noon............. If this actually happens, date / time has been revised 5 or 6 times, then we'll have been without power for 9 days.

Our cottage was built in 1966 and renovated in 1988, raising it about 3 feet. All waste water on main level is gravity, everything in basement drains to a sewage pump. So, we have options and don't use the basement bathroom if the power is off. My transfer switch will have a circuit for the sewage pump, so I can elect to turn that breaker on or off when power is off.

Ours was out for 7 days and is now back on. I gave the generator a thankful hug then gave it the yearly detail of a coating of Carpro Perl and WD40.

Inlaws cottage still has no power. I don't know the predicted time to restore. It's just baseboard heat to keep it from freezing. Thankfully, this is a good time of year for an extended power outage. They turn off the water but don't complete winterize as the they leave heat on low in wet rooms. Things like toilets and p-traps probably wouldn't survive a deep freeze. The pump room is in the centre of the basement with two doors between it and the closest window so I doubt that room would ever get below zero.
