Downtown bike parking “fun”

… so perhaps I should buy and lock in a rate for another motorcycle before this claim gets registered????

I thought about a court instead of insurance, but it would be more complicated and tedious, and lengthy.

I haven’t heard anything from insurance, with Echelon, since reporting on Friday.
echelon is notorious for radio silence, i had a positive overall experience with them when i made my claim.

How long did it take from claim to solving?? They told me they have higher claims volume now. I’m impatient.

No specific experience with Echelon, but if you started a claim, you should have been assigned an adjuster with contact info, and should be able to reach out to them if you feel you aren't being updated frequently enough.

This seems to be a common get out of jail card for all companies when calling in. Doesn't matter which industry.

3-4 weeks i believe from claim to payout agreement.

I put a ton of miles on my FZ6 and then got a 2nd gen FZ1, wasn't nearly as huge a fan of the FZ1.

- Gobs of power to the point that it was way too much for city riding. First gear will take you up to 140 or so. Even with a 1 down front sprocket there just isn't much need to shift when in the city
- It is way more cramped than the FZ6. Not bad for local rides but too tight in the knees for long days
- Small fuel tank for touring, I think when cruising fuel light would come on at 200 and be completely out at about 260. That drops significantly if riding aggressively
- The Givi V35 panniers that fit the bike beautifully are useless as panniers. The moulded shape makes it near impossible to fit a lot of things in

It was a super fun bike in many ways, just not practical and would probably lead to many tickets if I had it much longer.

Since made the move the ADV style bikes and have zero regrets. Similar riding position to the FZ6, way more storage capacity, and touring accessory options

Ouch... man, that is upsetting to see. Sorry that happened! Glad to see you're getting a new bike, though.

Thanks for feedback. I don’t plan on long touring in near future but it’s definitely a drawback with lower fuel range, and luggage overall.

wtf is going on with truck drivers? are they just poorly trained now? i think every cyclist thats died this year has been from some form of truck.

On second thought, I wouldn’t mind only using first gear in the city. I’m actually that lazy that changing gears is not necessary for an bike experience.
The online insurance calculator said I would be paying only extra $20/month on the fz1 with Intact insurance.

Stopped by GP bikes today. Even though they don’t specialize in Yamahas, one sales person tried showing me their options. I have to say the bigger adventure type style isn’t ideal for city commute. Also I’m 5 9’, and don’t stop a bike with feet, but having the option of both feet firmly on ground is something nice in city riding too.
They had one GT in stock. Wasn’t bad but a bit bulky.

The other sales person suggested I get a scooter, and was advising me on fashion footwear for the bike.
Snow city would’ve been the smarter stop. Next week.

My memory of FZ1 history is that the carb'ed version is an all-time classic, the early FI models are worse with snatchy fuelling and general lack of refinement by comparison, and later FI models fix a lot of the issues but lack the charm of the original.

I rode with a guy in Vancouver who owns an independent shop that sells used bikes, and he only rides the first-gen FZ-1. Could ride almost anything else, but that's the bike he loves. When his first one went past 100,000 kms, he found another one. Pretty good rider, too...
