My daughter has been a nurse for 2 years now, 2 of my nieces and my son's gf are freshly minted, between 1 and 4 mos on the job.My youngest daughter just started her nursing career this past summer. She's already finding it tough.
I'm a tradesman so I know what your stating is true. One caveat I'll add is many in the trades don't finish at 8 hours a day if they want to earn
better $.
My daughter loves her job - I think she would live in the hospital if they let her. The others... not so much.
It seems to me the workplace makes a difference. My daughters hospital, nurses self schedule, so they can balance get in life, the others are scheduled by coordinators and sometimes feel the process is unfair.
Another thing that seems to impact new nurses (observation), is education. While any nurse can get employed, there is always competition for desirable hospitals/nursing positions. For example, a opening on a mental health floor in the Kap may have 1 applicant, where an ICU opening at Sunnybrook could have a thousand. I've also noticed nurses from top nursing schools can go anywhere, not the case for those from other schools.
