Not defending Doug but kind of a minor expense and need was there earlier in the pandemic. Also a one-time expense not recurring.

In general I agree, given the amount of money shoveled out the door by DoFo and the Feds it's no surprise to hear there was waste, duplication and a lack of coordination. However, this is not a one time cost as there is and has been a need to stock pandemic supplies and the government has done a poor job of this overall.

Prior to COVID and my retirement I toured the ON government medical surgical warehouse in Vaughan several times where pandemic supplies were housed (think SARS and H1N1) and where all Ontario flu vaccines were either stored or processed prior to distribution to health units. I can attest that the government is no stranger to wastage and expired pandemic supplies as this warehouse had many hundred of skids and thousand of cases of expired masks, gloves, gowns etc...... No one would make the decision to purge these useless products as doing so would mean officially writing off or recognizing the value the stock to be disposed of, so they just sat on the racking gathering dust.
 
I hate waste , HOWEVER I’d rather live in a province that has a surplus and is stocked for demand and then some , as opposed to lining up for 2 months for a shot .
Being pandemic ready isn’t cheap , and so much was learned on the job . One might argue we are three yrs in here , but the protocol has changed every 6 months as we learned about this .

Alternatively we could live in a country where they chain your apartment building shut .

Kinda boring year for the auditor general. The 2010 - 2020 reports were way more fun!

Not sure how to feel about that one. Is her role only financial or is it also auditing process? Seems pretty clear that she gathered evidence on a huge policy fail under the provincial governments responsibility.

Well, it certainly isn’t to setup sting operations lol. You’ll note as per the article, some of those peopled hired by the government got banned from those places

Only the government could mess that one up and Doug is the fall guy.
 
A lot of money gets laundered thru casinos. I used to hang with a guy who cleans up $100k a year between Rama and Niagara. I suspect he did similar amounts in Vegas and Branson.

Washing $10k in a few hours at a casino is a cakewalk.

Getting banned is just left hand and right hand not knowing what is going on. Undercover cops get arrested sometimes too. I think that was a good thing as it shows how the process should work. Now, whether those get retracted is a real question as they obviously weren't trying to launder money but they were part of a project that gave OLG a black eye.

There seems to be a lack of detail on how many mystery shoppers there were and just some vague damning statements.

They were washing $10K+ in 10 minutes with less than 2% lost. That's pretty stellar service we provided.

$66m is a big number for you and me, but to put it into perspective.

Ontario's health care system uses $66m every 3hrs. Ontario's education system uses $66m by lunch every school day.
 
by 2023 he'll have 600 more . And 1200 will have opted for early retirement to get a ticket out of crazyville.

you used to spend 2 yrs in college , then 3 yrs in college , then 4 yrs in Uni to start an 80K job. You'll work 12 hr shifts , nights , weekends and holidays for your 80K start, youll be 100 in 5 yrs.

Or you leave highschool and become a plumber or electrical apprentice . You work Mon/Fri and your into 60/80K a yr pretty quickly.

You may not have a pension plan, but you wont need one... and nobody has a Bill124 salary cap up a plumbers arse.

My youngest daughter just started her nursing career this past summer. She's already finding it tough.
I'm a tradesman so I know what your stating is true. One caveat I'll add is many in the trades don't finish at 8 hours a day if they want to earn
better $.
