I’m currently chilling at my winter place which is highly charged USA political ground. The discussions I have had this week have been epic!

I usually have a good feeling on who will win - but this time I can’t figure out who will win - it’s just too close. Your thoughts?

It was a shock to me when he was elected in 2016. It wouldn't be a shock to me in 2024... I really, really would rather he would not be. I am at least glad that Biden withdrew.

And say what you like about Trudeau, but at least one of the things I thought he did well was handling direct interactions with Trump.

Donald.

-No new wars started under DJT, want to guess how many Presidents it's been since that happened last?
-American Economy did well under him
-He did a lot of what he campaigned on

He's not likable, but he is a far better candidate for the job.

Kamala has done F all in her roles as VP and supervision of projects under Biden.

IMHO, 2 terrible terrible candidates.

The most terrible is Trump. If he wins expect chaos and hate to prevail. As to his foreign policy........... the world will be a very different place in 4 - 5 years with Trump at the helm, and not in a good way.

I've spent a fair amount of time riding back roads in NY, PA, OH, WV, VA and MD over the last 15 years. Poverty and desperation are different, more extreme in the U.S. vs. Canada. You have dirt poor people with no jobs, or Mc service jobs that pay nothing, no healthcare and no hope. And Trump, the supposedly rich and successful businessman and TV personality, is there to tell you that you've been screwed over by everyone and only he can fix it. Americans love rich people and celebrities.

The least terrible is Harris. Democrats should have had a proper leadership race 12 - 18 months ago, but Joe held on and his enablers masked his cognitive issues as long as they could until it all blew up in their faces in the debate. I'm pretty sure Harris would not have been the candidate in a proper competition, but she is better than Biden.

I'd like to be wrong, but I think it's going to be very close and I'm hoping Harris squeaks in. Advance polling had set new records in volume, so turnout is going to be critical. As unbelievable as it may sound many Democrat men will not vote at all, or vote for Trump, as they believe that a women should not be president. With the race so close, this may make a difference and swing the win to Trump.

Young people don’t answer polls. Early voting has seen more young people vote than ever before. Young men are more apathetic in terms of voting compared to young women. Women in general are fired up by Roe V Wade (as they were in the midterms and nothing has persuaded them to ignore this issue since). Trump has tried hard to attract young men to his side for this exact reason.

Polls are actively being used as political chess pieces now to either prepare for a “it’s a steal” or to address voting habits eg “don’t go, it’s a sure thing” or “do go it’s looking bad” . So I don’t think that things are necessarily as close as a media that wants clicks is telling us.

Couple that with actually having seen exactly what Trump would be like from 4 years before of “drink bleach” “make Mexico pay” “I’ll fix healthcare” and the Jan 6th debacle and I think it’s Harris.

The Arab voters know Trump would be worse for them. Many voters know inflation/cost of living increases are worldwide, not just the US. I don’t know those are the issues that will swing this.

I think this is Roe V Wade again and when you’ve potentially ****** off 50% of the population that’s huge.

However- there are voters that will never vote for a woman regardless and voters that won’t vote for a coloured person regardless but again, I think that Venn diagram already mostly includes those people in the MAGA crowd and that MAGA crowd wasn’t enough 4 years ago and I don’t think it’s enough now.

I hate the thought of having to listen to his utter BS for 4 more years.
As to donnies great economy people forget that Obama spent 8 years building it back up after the last time the republicans were in power.

It was in utter shambles when he came in, 2008

Also I always find it funny that out of 330 million + people, these are the best 2 they can come up with.

The roe v wade and diddling though does put him lower than her in my eyes in terms of character. I mean why don't you put Clinton back in while you're at it (I know he can't even if he was viable) , they're the pretty much the same age anyways, let that sink in 😂

Oh..I forgot nearly all Puerto Ricans are also now fired up to vote against Trump due to an idiotic joke a comedian on a Trump Rally made.

Also. Trump maybe didn’t start a war but he had a huge hand in making Afghanistan a complete and absolute Taliban stronghold again (Make Afghanistan Taliban Again!), and making Iran forge ahead as a more isolated state with their nuclear program (Make Iran Nuclear Again!).

THIS!!! My Shiba Inu could have carried the economy after Obama!

As for "Kamala has done nothing in 4 years" this rhetoric in nonsense. The role of the VP is vastly different than the role of POTUS. This is republican narrative that fits their core.

It's a shame, that in 2024, gender will play a role in this election. Not to mention visible minority as well.

The Christian right wing is terrifying. The division between church and state seems to be a blurred line.

I sincerely hope that we don't wake up 11/6 to another 4 years of that circus act that was the Trump presidency. I cannot understand why people cannot see him for what he is. A shell of a human, a weak salesperson, a narcistic wind bag with zero substance that has not actually been successful at anything other than celebrity.

Nearly forgot…Trump moved the American embassy in Israel and emboldened Israelis in terms of ignoring occupation issues. Fast forward a few years and here we are. He didn’t start his own wars but he left the world in a much more dangerous place.

If he gives Putin whatever he wants, showing Zhi what he could do to Taiwan and destroys NATO in the process then I’d make a large bet that isn’t a good thing globally.

FWIW, this is a NYT poll. If this can be believed, looks like Harris might prevail. PA is critical, but appears to be a toss up in this poll.

I recall an article a short time ago where a woman in her early twenties had just seen the infamous Billy Bush / Trump video where he talks about being able to do what he wants with women, grab them by the p...... etc.... She was 12 or 13 in 2016 and had never seen or heard of the video. She was outraged by it and made a point of sharing it with her friends and posting it on social media. A huge number of comments echoed the same outrage. Most had never seen it and said they planned to vote Harris. Let's hope there are more people like this out there.

Like others it's about choosing the least worst. Has there been a SINGLE positive news article on what Trump accomplished or was working on? Never seen the media so hungry to rip someone to shreds. Every day he was in office CNN had some sort of negative news story front and center on him. Haven't seen the same treatment to Biden.
I did enjoy the Trump/Rogan podcast...he did give off the vibe he does want what's best for the country but then again was on his best behavior. Too bad he such a loose canon. Podcast had 30 million views in the first day and Youtube didn't even have it on their trending page. That should tell you something.

60 minutes went so far as to editing an answer to an interview question that Kamala made, to make her look less dumb to the general public. I can't imagine them doing that for Trump. They won't release the interview transcript.

Are the Americans voting based on personality or on policies that would make the average American life better. Good paying jobs, affordable housing, affordable healthcare, affordable post secondary education, protect free speech. Safer streets. No more war.
If the person is promising these but is a SOB so be it!
