dog food selection?

Mastiffs maybe bullmastiffs no. Look at my picture again

Ok, ok...is this better?

Gunners mad you called him fat, he is off to kill a girly boxer

lol, he'd have to catch em first ;).
He's soooo cute, I just love these bully breeds. They look so mean and intimidating but they're the most quiet, calm and confident breeds.

not sure why you think they aren't fast or athletic. They are big time Surprisingly so.

I never said that. Remember I referred to them as the heavyweights, that doesn't imply they're slow and not athletic but realistically you can't expect them to keep up the same pace as a middleweight.

Mastiff's are more like raw power athletes like the strongman competition dudes, if you look at most gamebred dogs (Presas, Dogo, Cane Corso, Boerboels, OE Bulldogs etc) that also descend from the same ancestors you can see the body type has evolved to be a little lighter and lean to keep the stamina and speed. Its just basic anatomy and physiology.

I was actually looking to get a Dogue De Bordeaux (French Mastiff) but the breeder downright would not sell me one. They said boxers are too high energy to raise a giant breed. They said the mastiff puppies will try and keep up with the high energy level supercharged dogs and its very taxing on their joints and overall growth leading to problems as they get older. They made it clear it was nothing personal and they were just looking out for the best interest of the breed and were very particular to which homes they let their dogs go to. I hope its not entirely true because I've still got my eyes set on a mastiff in the future.

But with cheaper foods you might have to feed more.

I remember at training class the trainer did a double-take when one of the other guys said he had to feed his (~2-year old) Doberman 6 cups of food a day. Then when that guy said it was a Costco brand, the trainer was like "OHHHhh that's why."

So maybe check the recommended daily feeding? If you end up feeding a lot more of the cheaper food you might not get any savings out of it
.

Im in with the huge amount of meals i give my dog

hes turning 2 this october and since 12 weeks old, i've been feeding him 3 cups breakfast and 3 cups dinner. 3/2/3 on weekends due to long jogs or fetch play time.

My dog is pretty tall (27") but he's a skinny monster (~100lbs) :(. Im pretty sure some dogs just have that appetite.

I fed him orijen from 12 weeks to 6 months. Then 6 months - 12 months raw diet. 12 months to 24 months. Acana grain free

I know its not just the brand of food.

Pics of him soon

My boxer is super lean but i feed him what he eats. I feed him 4 cups a day of blue buffalo and even that he picks at and sometimes leaves breakfast till later on.

There are some good looking dogs in this thread.

My rotti is mixed with a boxer, and she is 80 pounds of solid muscle.
We feed her 4 cups of food daily as wellIMG_0582.jpgIMG_0582.jpg

( this is her a few months old)

^^Can't see it. says "403-Forbidden"

Inferno that looks pure rottie to me, or maybe a 1/4 boxer. Then again a mix can go either way, do you have recent pics? My buddy has one that's a year old, he's got the big size and head of a rottie but the build and fawn coat of a boxer. He's a gorgeous dog, and looks a lot more boxer but his muzzle is more elongated like a rottie with less jowl and he's big for a year old dog.

Yeah, she is majority Rotti with some boxer in her. I think this is the latest one i have of her ..
Plus you cant see it, but she has her full tail as well.

Want athletic?...120 pounds 2yrs 3months old. Great Dane German Shepherd and some Rotti. Faster than a speeding anyone...More powerful than any sportybike ....Leaps tall decks in a single bound...slobbers and slimes anything ....why it's Super Ozzy....the dog and a half.

These are my two babies :)

The girl (right) lives for people! She can run and run and run, but will stop dead in her tracks for belly rubs.
The boy (left) lives to play! He is pure muscle, and he may be tiny but is strong as heck for his size.

that's the most fit pug I've ever seen. Is he mixed with a boston terrier or something like that?

I feed both my boys Orijen now, but when I had the freezer space I raw fed. Way cheaper, much better for them.
Organs, tripe, chicken/turkey necks from a local butcher (they often just give away the necks), beef on sale from the grocery store, and an ice cube per meal that I'd pre-make of veggie ends, eggs + shells, and fish oil. Prep once a month and portion, done.
You do need a decent amount of dedicated freezer space though.

I have two AHT's, both big for the breed and very healthy.

ps. Motorcycles and dogs? This forum is dangerous for me..
