Does Music affect your Speed and riding style?

Oh yes it does, I NEVER ride without my MP3 on full blast to fast-paced music which makes me ride fast-pace... the same effect when I'm working and have my MP3 on, I move twice as fast.

I hope you do not operate a forklift ..lol

yes music makes me ride faster lol...that's why i don't listen to it unless i'm touring and wanting to cover massive miles in 1 day...if its a day ride forget it.

Was just thinking about earlier comment someone made that you would not hear stuff happening under your wheels.

Had 33 db earplugs in today and easy heard the tire scrunch and slip a bit on some gravel - was very distinct both the sound through the bike and and the feel of it. Much of that kind of noise is bone conduction anyway.

If anything it shuts out the constant wind buffeting noise and lets you hear/feel more of the road contact.
...

No question that having ear plugs actualy helps you hear things better while riding. Blocking off the constant wind noise lets your brain concentrate on sounds you need to hear. On top of that it protects your hearing and if you are young and smart enough to do it now you won't have the tinnitus and hearing loss many of us older folks suffer through.

As far as the original question my answer is that music doesn't make me ride faster.. usually. I generally play music but some times I might go a few days without doing so. I have earplugs and helmet speakers. My iPod has a play list with about 30 hours of music (outside of the many days of music that isn't on the playlist.) On the playlist are songs I am familiar with and enjoy and since I am familiar with them they can easily fade into the background so don't force my attention. I can stop the music immediately if I want as my iPod is sitting in front of me in a waterproof Ram Aquabox.

The only ticket while riding I have was while listening to relaxing music in an attempt to slow down. Fail.

Totally forgot this song existed...but based on what I do in my car I don't think I'm putting it on my riding playlist when I get an SS

Music doesn't affect my speed so much as my style. When cruising with Buds we like to do the doesey doe. We ride in pairs mostly.

When going for short rides like to work or such I don't listen to any music, but on long commutes I do. Recently coming back to Niagara from Guelph my headphones died and it was very much missed, with the wind noise at highway speeds I can't hear anything anyways, might as well have some tunes to cruise to

I almost always ride with earphones with music. I find with the medium-priced in-ears with no notice canceling act as both cutting down the high freq. wind and engine noise, but still allows the growl of engines and trucks. I don't tend to listen to high tempo rock or electronic music, so I feel it adds to the zen mood. In the country it's bliss. Lord knows in the city anything can spark rage.

I spent two weeks solo riding in the mountains, valleys, jungles of south east asia and listened non stop to the albums of "the album leaf" and "American dollar". Not saying this is amazing music or anything, but man, was my two weeks like an episode of Planet Earth. Every view had en extra dash of epic.

Legal and monetary consequences effect my speed. And i always listen to music on the couchrocket out of the city.

Not interested in music while I ride. Always wear ear plugs and go with whatever's playing on the radio in my head.

my play lists are usually pretty eclectic. Everything from house and techno to industrial, soul, funk, disco, and heavy metal.
