Do you tip if they charge for delivery?

Somewhat related.
If I go to a restaurant that charges "gratuities" on the bill and expects it, I will NOT give a tip even if they deserve it as that's a pretty cocky move. A tip is something that is earned, not something that should just be assumed you will get.
I'll just pay up what the cost of the bill minus their little scam and walk out.

Last place I went that charged gratuity on top of the regular bill (due to size of group) had slower service and messed up a few orders... go figure. i've never seen a place auto charge gratuity except for the size of the group...

I tip, and then I don't tip. It depends on the contents of my wallet, how much of a good mood I'm in, and how pleased people have made me. Pizza man delivers pizza? If it's $18.20 and I have $20, he can keep it.

I'm not bashing that the driver doesn't need the money, or expects it, but if you have a job that EXPECTS tips, and that's how you make your living, don't hate me, get a better job. I don't go around faxing paperwork over to someone else, and then wait for a cheque to come through on the otherside that contains a tip for doing my job. Most companies charge a delivery fee, and there, you've delivered me the pizza and I paid the fee. You walking my pizza from your car to my door doesn't require any coordination more so than moving your legs, and lifting your own weight out of the car. Plus, if I don't tip you, maybe you'll realize your jobs sucks, and show some more ambition, getting yourself a better job. Then you can come back to my door and tip me for helping you improve your life. Screw you, and your tips. All of you.

T I P S is apparently and acronym for To Insure Prompt Service and I can see your point as, with a delivery, how does a tip affect service if the service level has been set before the tip becomes payable.

In the real world if I don't want to tip I go to a fast food line up or take out. If I go to a sit down I recognize the reality of the wage / tip situation and will reward or unreward depending on service / attitude.

If tipping were made illegal the food and delivery prices would rise and you will end up paying the same as you are now but not have the reward / unreward option.
