Any diesel or gasoline powered engine burns oil. More of an occurrence in a 2-stroke engine because it detonates twice as much and while there is burnt gas in the cylinder. Also rotary engines because they act similar to 2-stroke engines.
Well considering you ADD oil to the gas on a two stroke purposely to keep it from seizing that's really not a great example. Yes engines use a bit of oil but if your adding liters between oil changes that's usually a good indication something isn't right.
