Do Hondas burn oil?

My 2006 V6 Accord doesn't burn any oil and my 2011 CBR250RA doesn't burn any either. As others have said, I think it is only specific model years that have had issues, and for bikes only the fireblades come to mind.

I have a 2010 CBR1000RR and it burns quite a bit of oil. I have to top it up after every couple rides but i ride it hard. Bought it brand new from Clarington Honda and neither they or Honda Canada is willing to do anything for me in terms of warranty over this issue. All they said was "try running the Honda oil and see if that fixes it". Ya right, i've done my research... thanks for nothing Honda!

North American Preludes had a stupid engine design with the cylinder walls or something which caused the seals to burn and burn oil, I have an 01 Prelude. It does burn oil but not a lot, My buddy has a Rav4 Toyota 2008 and that thing burns more oil than my Prelude. The Jdm preludes had the good engine n transmissions. North American got some rejected version of the engine LOL. Not sure if that info helps with your question, I just seen a lot of ppl talking about Preludes so I thought I would share my experience. I have an older Acura with over 540,000km on it with all original motor n transmission. My whole family drives Honda or Acura and not really anything goes wrong. Pretty solid cars imo. But like others have mentioned, the Prelude was a lemon. Oh well, I still love mine lol

Edit:All my other Hondas/Acura dont have oil burning issues. Only my Prelude.

I have had no issues with my hondas.

I'll still buy the Honda cars over anything else. (Owned 6 Hondas. Prelude was the only lemon ).

Actually owned 2 honda cars (CRX & Civic) and 8 bikes - never an issue.

Owned three generations of civics 1991/2000/2011.....and not a single issue other then regular maintenance

My eifes 91 crx has 470,000 km and is bullet proof. My 89 crx is is turbocharged and bullet proof, wifes 03 accord v6 winterbeater has 330,000km and goes to myrtle beach and back. My honda lawnmower has been perfect for last 3 years, havent even checked the oil. Iv owned 13+ hondas and love them.

F4i for 10000 km and I was fine,

Big family, we've owned a number of Honda's..

all of the Honda's we've owned have been fantastic machines. Some have been decent, others complete duds, but none have been as reliable as Honda.

So to recap,

a handful of CBR1000s burnt a bit of oil, and the Prelude which was last model year of 2001 (13 years ago) burnt a bit of oil apparently.

the general consensus of the thread, is that people are happy with their Honda's and there isn't really a problem.

1998 Honda Prelude SE ...had it from 2008 to 2011....

used to burn a litre of oil a week!

no jokes... ..She finally died on me at my work's parking lot and I got $200 scrapping her( I still carry that cash around to give it in to buy a decent sports car one day :p)

H22A engines of preludes were known to burn issues but then when they launched the Acura RSX with prelude bits in it they corrected this issue..

Wait, this is a motorcycle forum....sry!

I noticed you didnt have an experience with your Honda to share. I am only interested in what actual owners have to say.

owned 2 cars 1 bike.

I buy oil and filter every 4k km and air filter every 6 months. tires properly inflated and my pocket is happy.

Any diesel or gasoline powered engine burns oil. More of an occurrence in a 2-stroke engine because it detonates twice as much and while there is burnt gas in the cylinder. Also rotary engines because they act similar to 2-stroke engines.

same experience on an 08, on the street it was fine, on the track, about what 49over said. Given your running the p*ss out of it, a bit is to be expected

My 08 burnt 1/2 liter per 1000miles until it hit 5000kms. Then it stopped. It has 33000kms now and it only does track. But I put 250ml every 2 weekends. Which is ok with me.
Reving 11-12,000 rpm all the time. I don't mind burning a bit.

Honda claims it was a bad batch of rings in the early 08's. A few reported after 08, but it seemed to really drop off

OK, so skip the 08 model. What's the big deal?

This is silly, you can't ask a blanket question like that, even apply it to two completely different types of vehicles. If you're looking at a particular bike, ask about that specific bike on that bike's specific forum where thousands of other people with the exact same bike can give you their opinion.

Some engines burn oil, some don't. Out of the ones that don't, some do depending on maintenance and luck. Some cars like the Prelude 2.2L burn a lot of oil, Honda never did anything to fix it. Absolutely fantastic car otherwise, would love to buy one if they made it today. There's a reason so many Prelude owners refuse to give them up.

Edit: Don't know if it's still the case, but Honda used to make the most internal combustion engines in the world.

I can and I did. There is a known issue with Cbr1000 2008 and later years, and the class action lawsuit settlement includes several model lines of 4 wheeled vehicles.......could be a fundamental design they use across many platforms, hence the question.
