Ding Dong, the witch is dead....

I never paid much attention to the carbon tax.. and rebates. I always thought it didn't really apply to me.. I got a rebate on Friday.. 175K.. for a business that pays little to nothing into the carbon tax.
My initial response when I saw the rebate.. WTF.. has to be a mistake..why would hey give us anything? Must be an error.. but no, just another untended consequence of not thinking things thru properly... creating a loophole of sorts. My business... that business,.. doesn't deserve any rebate. It's ridiculous that we got it.
$175,000 ?

175k!? And here I am waiting for my $250 (or something) cheque in anticipation.

May I ask what type of business?

Rebates were correlated with the number of T4's. Lots of employees equals bigger rebate. Don't try to understand how that is a good metric to "reimburse" businesses for their carbon tax paid. I doubt it will see the light but wouldn't be surprised if friends of the libs spun up many companies with 499 employees (even if they were each paid only a token amount) to generate enormous rebates. Think $10 to do this task (answer a pollster that libs are our saviours?), here's a T4. Each employee generates a "rebate" of +/- $146. Table below with rates.

EDIT:
There is explicitely no differentiation between full-time, part time or seasonal employees. Say you "employed" people in saskatchewan. Each 499 employee corporation gets a rebate of $576,345 if they were employed each year. You could pay the employees a total of 37K ($15 a year). Accounting costs for managing/filing maybe 25K. A bit of management time to wash the employees through each year. Profit of ~$500K per corp in rebate alone. Spin up a dozen corps and he hands you profit of $6M of our money. The trick is knowing early how permissive and stupid the program will be.

Why do they tax the tax? Adding tax to the bottom line hurts enough. But when they put gst on the already tax burns a bit
