Dems Da Brakes?

The OEM Duc and Yamaha Brembo MCs are not the same as their aftermarket units. Piston bore and offset numbers are different.

A genuine aftermarket Accosatto, Brembo or Braking MC can be a very good investment.

This is true, but the difference between a R6's brakes and a GSX-R's brakes is sizable. As in, they work a lot better on track. This coming from a guy with three GSX-Rs...

Just checked Blue Streak and the Accossato is quite a bit cheaper than the Brembo or Braking. I imagine it would be leaps and bounds better than the OEM MC on my SV. What's the deal with 19mm x 18mm vs 19mm x 20mm? Is that barrel diameter x depth? What would be different about them?

I got aN Accossato MC from Tony Blue (great price) at the start of last season and did my lines at the same time. That's probably why I can still ride the bike with my terrible EBC HH pads.

19mm is the piston bore. 18/20mm is the offset. The distance from pivot to piston.

18mm gives you less lever effort required but the 20mm gives better feel/feedback.

If you read the blurb then its all about the range of "feel" the lever gives you. I read that the smaller (19 x 18 are better for 4 pot systems on 600s and the bigger 19 x 20 are better for 6 pot systems on superbikes. The bigger the ratio the more fluid it moves, if I remember correctly. If you're unsure buy an adjustable ratio MC. But add $100 to your budget as well.

I ride a gsxr 600 and run mine at 19 x 18. I should really play around with it more but i dont.

you can get a used brembo for ~200

Sounds way more sensible than my waffle. Like I said, I should play around with my MC more.

The RCS brembo isn't rebuildable in North America, it has to go to Italy (so don't crash it). The 19x18 on my Gsxr 1000 has plenty of power to lift the rear with one finger, I haven't tried another ratio but the feel works well for me.

The calipers on the SV are a limitation also, but I won't be upgrading those. Thanks for the input, guys. I'll do some more research and try to make some sort of decision before Christmas. :D

Are repair kits available for the accossato? If you rip the plunger out of the brembo a repair kit is around 50 bucks.

Also the difference between the 18mm and 20mm is just the lever, so its not hard to change it if you don't like it. I forget which I have on mine but had no difficulty pulling the back wheel of my sv off the ground.

You're such a drama queen lol

Good point, I'll have to look into that one.

I would imagine that (as caboose said) any aftermarket MC is going to be worlds above the OEM one.

Ferodo xracs in my big ap 6 pots. The hotter they get the better they work

Just got CL xbk5's for the front and rx3's for the rear. Will post a review once I got enough time on them.
