Deer Hunting

Venom: I have a buddy down in Georgetown who knows some of the local shops. I personally am down Kingston way, so I am unfamiliar with shops in the big smoke. I will contact him and ask him if he can recommend any in Mississauga. I know he does highly recommend one in Waterloo I believe, so if the weather's nice, a run out there in the weekend might be in order for you. I'll get back to you after I get in touch with him.

Venom. He recommended the one in Waterloo as I expceted he would. <http://www.bow-shop.com/>. If it is a modern bow with composite limbs (fibreglass, Graphite etc.) it might not lose too much of it's power. Mine was 70's vintage and the limbs were made of laminated wood. I shouldn't have left it strung, but didn't think it mattered with the new (at the time) bows as they weren't under very much strain when resting (unike the old recurves etc.). It probably took 20 years or so for the weakening to be noticed, but about 10 years ago I took it in and they checked the draw weight and it was just legal for deer; 40 pounds I think. What type of bow is it and how old do you think it is?

Thanks for all the tips! Ill post the type if bow it is when I get home and look at it again. It was a familiar name on it I know I seen before. It is a compound bow and it looks and feels like its made out if some sort of composite, not wood. So I might be in luck. Anyone turkey hunt? I'd love to try it.

I turkey hunt, but again with the 12 gauge. A turkeys eyes pick up movement way more than a deer. It's difficult enough gettin to full draw on a deer a turkey would be really hard.

You're supposed to dress in a ghillie suit

Rmemedic: They won't laugh when you're the only one with a turkey taken with a bow.

I see them in the store but I'm pretty sure I would be laughed at by my hunting partners lol.

Real men not only hunt with arrows, but make their ghillie suit from the land too

Venom, have a look at Badenoch Archery, off 6 hyway , 5min south of 401 , south of guelph. 45 mins closer than waterloo and really good guys. They are my go to guys.

O.K. so I checked it out and it's a Jennings UniStar and from what little info I have so far this bow went on sale in the early 90's. I'm trying to find more info.

*edit*
O.k. so it seems for its day it was a pretty good bow. It also seems people are still using them. I hope this means that ill be in luck when it come to getting this thing going.

don't you use ghillie suits by laying down and bow's and arrows while standing up? Standing up in a ghillie i think you'd look like a dried out swamp thing or such.

Paintballing we sit on our butt in or around bushes or other green things. For hunting I have never seen it used but I guess if you had a blind it could work.

Venom. I know the Jennings name, but not that bow. It appears to be very unique from what I can find on the web. If it still has a sticker, it should tell you what it's draw weight should be; it may be adjustable as well. A bow shop should have a spring scale that can check it. Even if it's weak, it may be OK for targets, and it is a bit of a collector's item I imagine.

I've seen a few old expired post of people selling this bow online for $150-$250 bucks. I have no idea about much else. I guess its time to let a pro look at it. And yes it has a tag on it that says (if I remember right) that the string is 31" and the it has a # symbol and the number 60 next to it. I'm assuming that has something to do with the lbs of the draw? Again I'm a noob here.

Here's a junk to a picture I found
Although not the best picture.
