Deals on helmets. Do you know any?

read what I wrote above...

No, there hasn't been any testing done on brand new old stock helmets. This whole "5 year lifespan" theory started because of the manufacturers wanting to cover their own *** because of liability or insurance issues. Also it doesn't hurt to encourage customers to get a new helmet every few years...

I rode in my RF-1000 from 2009 to 2013 and put close to 80k km on it, its still in decent shape but the little red fastener clasp thing eventually wore out and now it won't click in. I loved the graphics on it which were limited edition for 2009 so I got one second hand for $250 that the guy literally wore a few times around the house and sold his bike because he realized how much insurance was. The accessories were still untouched and it had new helmet smell, so I was quite happy considering I paid over $600 for the first one. However I think I'm just going to keep for display maybe wear it occasionally, its irreplaceable now so I'd hate to crash in it.

I love Shoei and will be getting a RF-1200 for everyday use in a week or so...

Sorry, didn't see your reply to my original question. My 2nd post and your answer were less than a minute apart haha.

Thanks though!!

Ok so wait, there hasn't been any testing on old helmets to see if they still offer the same protection but you can say that helmets last until the clip to fasten the excess strap doesn't work anymore?

Uhhh yea...that was just my personal experience with a relatively good condition high mileage helmet. The clasp has nothing to do with the helmet staying on your head, the strap goes through the d-rings and stays tight just fine the excess strap I just use to tuck under so it wouldn't flap around. I could probably have gotten the little red button or the whole strap replaced but didn't bother because it was time for a new helmet anyways.

It doesn't really have **** to do with the safety of the actual helmet, its like saying a bike is no longer rideable because he brake light isn't working...
Some helmets use a little magnet or others like Schuberth have that slide fastener similar to kids rollerblades so they'd never even have a problem like this.

But don't you think it would be a smarter buisness concept for arai to say for example, that their corsar V lasts 7 years to get you to spend more money as opposed to their cheaper helmets if it were a marketing ploy? And how do they know your going to buy another arai in 5 years?

Helmets may very well last longer than 5 years but as you said there's no testing (atleast that we've seen) proving they do so I'll take the $500-$1000 hit every 5 years.
