Dealer Inventory

Has anyone dropped into a dealer showroom lately to scope out their current inventory levels?

Now that things are more opened up I plan to visit Burlington Cycle and Sturgis in Hamilton later this week. I have my eye on a specific Honda model and want to see it close up instead of pre-ordering which seems to be the norm with car dealerships these days.

I would go there very soon. If it's a popular bike you're looking at you may want to order it or put a deposit. I live 10 minutes from GP in Whitby, so I go there quite a bit. A lot of the new bikes they have been bringing in are sold or have deposits on them, especially dual sport, adventure bikes. Sport bikes and cruisers probably not as much. The inventory in every business is not going to be what it's been in the past, as we have talked about before here.

Yamaha already said supply shortage is imminent. Honda is probably going to be in a similar boat. Buy now

I ran into huge issues when bike shopping a few weeks ago.
Yamaha - I was looking at MT-09 and MT-09 SP. Both were sold out of 2022’s and every dealer I spoke to said there’s already a wait list started for people preordering 2023 models.
Suzuki - Looked at the GSXS1000GT and was told they had no clue when they were getting them.
Honda - Called a few dealers about a 2022 CB1000R and all were sold out. Ended up finding a new 2021 model (exactly the same as a 2022) in the showroom at KW Honda. Put a deposit on it and will take delivery next week.

nothing to buy is the problem - htere is not a single new CRF300L in 200km radius, only 22k DCT Africa's..
I think all '22 CRF's were presold last year, so dealers don't even list this bike anymore...

My riding group has four 2022 bikes coming in for this season.

We all put down deposits last year, around November/December timeframe. I got mine middle of Feb, another one came in last week, one more expected this month and the last one early April.

If it's a popular model and you don't have money down right now, you're probably not going to see it till the end of the summer.

Kind of unrelated kind of not.

In August I went to a few Seadoo dealers to order a jetski for 2022. None within 2hrs of the GTA would even take my money for a deposit. Said they were all allocated, and would let me know in a few months "if there were spots available for 2023". Eventually found one in Kingston, who was reluctant to sell it to me since I wasn't a local (cottage was though), but got it reserved in the end. And I started calling the day the 2022 pricing was announced, so not even like I was slow to order one. Should be arriving in the next month or two I would imagine.

Like other have said, in this market you're likely too late to order something or need to do it today.

Did anybody think as recently as say 5yrs ago, motorcycles , side by sides , seadoos and outboard motors would be on an order in basis, and allocation would be a problem for dealers ?? Used boats and RV's actually went up in value.

World has goner bonkers.

when this cycle is over (no mater how long it is) - it would be a lot of cheap "lightly" used toys on the secondary market, just wait for it :)

good example would be the fitness equipment buying craze when the first lockdown occurred - weights went up x5 times and still were not avail all sold-out,,,, now after wave #5 you can pickup tons of brand new dumbbells/weights/etc. for real cheap

I expect there to be a fire sale on all these items in a few years

Sent using a thumb maybe 2

New inventory may be delayed, but there are still deals to be had on current/leftover inventory. Especially winter time on less popular models

Except that there isn't a lot of product going out....it is the lack of supply causing the demand. People are not consuming more motorcycles than normal right now....the manufacturers cannot make them. The same issue is going on in the car business. It's not like once they get back to normal you'll be able to buy all kinds of cars for cheap....things will just go back to normal. If there were a run on motorcycles and Seadoos AND they had lots of supply I'd be agreeing with you.

Ehhh the feds pumped a few hundred billion out into the economy which gave people who may or may not have truly needed it more cash. Lots of people saved lots of money not going into the office every day. Lots of people job hopped and got significant raises. I'd say its definitely a lack of supply, but the demand has gone up since people have more to spend.

indeed...dealers are receiving fewer vehicles than before covid....which was below demand then. It is worse now.

Got an update today from Honda. The wife’s Civic Si had a ‘delivery week’ of March 21 - 25 and that has now been changed to “TBD”.
Anyone want to start a pool on when I will actually take delivery?
Aren't they built a few miles up the road?

Likewise with my order of a new Rav4. Pushed from April.

Built a few miles west of us but no word on when they send the VIN to me. Apparently, they are sending them south instead of filling Canuck dealer orders.
