Daily sports car?

For the Mustangs, the 2015-2017 years are preferable currently for the better engine reliability then? Price wise the Horses in that year range with a v8 cost as much as a new 370z without too many KM's which is good to see. Would compare it back to back with the 370 likely.

I haven't considered the Vette's but I've seen enough reviews to know they can wipe or keep up with exotics that are at-least 3 times more expensive, definitely impressive. Would need to look into that but it may be out of my price range.

Don't know if I'd like a VW, not just the fwd but the turbo charged engine's make me warry of them. I do know that interior wise they're as great as the Audi's even, if I was looking at a fwd I'd also check the new Civic Type R's lol. The fake vent's on them are goddam lame though... Would not want a bmw just too many electronics in them today.
I love what they have done with the type r, especially since its FWD but i could not bring myself to walk back to that thing everyday in a parking lot. It looks like a mess.

I don't know if people have actually documented any 'issues' with the motor in the 18+ Stangs, just that it's making a noise from the engine. My assumption is that long term reliability due to the noise is the concern from owners.I don't claim to be fully plugged in though.

Now the 18+ stangs have the active exhaust and the drivers LCD screen. They also introduced the 10 speed auto (maybe on 17s?) and beefed up the manual tranny, which was a complaint on the earlier years.

If it were my money i'd buy a used '18.

Oh, the LCD screen is just AWESOME! I want it for my 17..

Then I bought a C7 Z06 last sept.
The car is rediculous.
End of story.

You know you want one.

For me, the Type R has a simple deal breaker: no heated seats. It's 2019, if I'm spending $45k+ on a car, it better have heated seats, and preferably a heated wheel as well. I don't want to hear about "weight savings", I want the option.

I've driven both RWDs and FWDs, and have never felt a difference. I guess I need to try real sport cars ...
Unless there is some kind of front wheel drive posi traction the front wheels will just loose traction if the car has any real power. I have the base GTI and the turbo does not come on in 1st gear as the front tires would just spin. Yes a manual trans. Fun starts in 2nd gear.
I think the top GTI has some kind of electronic aid to overcome this.

The option to omit those ugly fake plastic vents! Think Honda is trying to hard to "man" up the civic

Yeah, as you said, GTI/Golf R are very very good cars. But if someone wants pure joy and emotions then I would personally look into other cars..

Agreed, they do alot very well, and are perfect as an only car for an enthusiast driver but if I was looking for a second or third car as my fun car, I would look elsewhere as well.

Shame its FWD only. (obv. Golf R option but then imo, that's a whole different can of worms).

It does have its limitations as a fwd. Mine was heavily modified, the suspension was completed upgraded including modified control arm mounts and geometry and I could get it to rotate nicely but push too hard and it would remind you that the front wheels were doing all the work.
I work for VW, I have driven many of both and I would honestly take the gti over the R. IMO it's more fun, the R is faster but not as playful.

BRZ
yeah it's not very powerful
but the fun factor is huge
and Subaru quality is, ahem, a level above Ford

and I don't care how much you dress up
and kit out a Golf
they area an econo-box in the their soul

Honda? hahahaha

+1 on the brz, embarrassingly slow but you're grinning like an idiot the whole time. Add in the TRD supercharger kit and that whole argument becomes invalid...

The VW are a cut above in econoboxes, they do tend to have better material/fit and finish than the competition. But you aren't wrong, at its core it's still built to a price point. I used to joke that my gti was a 20k car with 15k in factory upgrades lol.

If you're going Mustang GT just get a GT350 instead, it's a totally different animal... It may eat more fuel and cost more but it's gonna be worth a lot more than a regular GT in the future anyway, and that burbly v8 flat pane revs past 8k! The only cars more satisfying are going to be quadruple the cost lol

sales for the BRZ and the Toyota variant are dropping off
I expect the car to be canceled, too bad

the Subie 2 liter boxer - EJ - is capable of 100 to >300 HP
don't know why they limit the BRZ to 200

I have an old Forester XT with the turbocharged 2.5 litre
looks like a grocery hauler but will eat a Cayenne's lunch

200 horsepower in the 86/BRZ is "embarrassingly slow"?

In whose world is that? I've never owned a car with much more than half that. Still don't!

The advantage in today's world of a car (or bike) being "moderately slow" - if not "actually slow" (my car!) - is that you get to wring it out while not really actually going all that fast.

The 86/BRZ (and Miata, and S2000) are meant for "driver engagement" - the way the steering and suspension respond, being able to explore the car's limits ... the 86/BRZ intentionally comes standard with the same low-rolling-resistance tires that the Prius has, because you can slide them around without actually going stupidly fast. The engine intentionally does not have huge power because then the driver gets to row it through the gears and wind it out to redline without actually going stupidly fast (although 200 hp ought to still be enough to get in plenty of trouble).

Is that what you are looking for, or are you looking for something that is "actually fast"?

not at that price point

I see. I sometimes experience the front wheels losing traction on my current car in first gear (280hp, V6, fwd, stick shift). So is that the main difference and an RWD wouldn't do that ? I've never driven an equal or more powerful RWD to know.

S2000 was about a half second faster and think of all the advancements since then, even if the Honda motor was iconic for the time.

They are sports coupes on a budget, although last i recall Miata is actually quite pricey. I imagine because it really doesn't compete with anything so they can get away with the price tag.

The 86/brz is pretty slow but on the track it’s really fun as the handling is amazing but it definitely does not have the power and can get boring but depends on what your looking for.
Very fun track car and can redline the car on the streets but the power is just not there and the engine does not make great power in the aftermarket scene.

Still a great car just wish they could or would come stock with more power.
