How 'bout this scenario.......
You're not feeling too **** hot. You head to the Dr and he sends you for tests.
Results come back, and your Dr tells you that seeing Christmas is "unlikely", you're very ill. It's March.
Do you head to the finish line in the yaris, or buy that car (or boat, or airplane, etc) you've been dreaming of, for as long as you can remember?
I probably wouldn't buy something that depreciates like a stone and then is a pain to sell. Odds are good that I would rent some fun toys though. I normally play the long game to make sure I have enough money for tomorrow. When you get a reasonably defined end date, you can spend more daily as you don't need to keep years of money in the warchest.

I ditch the yaris for something with a stick that gobbles gas and smokes tires.
I worked with a special needs kid at HFH and thanks to me if asked how he spent his money he'll tell you "I spent most of it on hard liquor and loose women, the rest I just squandered"

I spent more on one car than I'd normally spend on three.........because.
Then I lived, unexpectedly, and took a massive hit (my own damn fault) .
Was it worth it?
Yup.

When I finished school my dad made me do a bucket list I could finish before I hit 50. His advice was to finish it by 50 rather than making it at 50 then hoping it could be finished.
I finished mine at 50. My list had a few fancy cars, that's done -- all I care about today is having something dependable and efficient. So, I'll be going across the finish line in a new Yaris.
I bought my first new car a couple years ago. I felt I’ve worked hard and wanted to do it as I’ve always purchased older vehicles as it makes sense monetarily.
I’m on the fence if I’ll do it again. I still have a couple of things to check off my list.
Work more so I can have expensive stuff I'm too busy working to use? Eff that.
I'm retired. I'm ok with my used bikes, used car, used sled, used RV and time off to enjoy it all. You playing with toys or working today?

My problem for a DD is I need very close to 100% reliability as I don't have room to store backup vehicles and need a vehicle for work. That means buying beaters is not a good fit for me (but a long-held yaris could work fine). For the last few vehicles, I planned on buying used but used market was stupid and new was a better deal.
Back on topic, buying a used sports car to daily is playing with fire. They are often driven hard and put away wet. If you get really unlucky, they have been tuned and abused prior to your ownership. Unless you know the original owner, it's hard to know how much life has been used up already.
I plan to continue ‘punching a clock’ until the day I’m psychically unable to do so. Then I’ll jump out of a plane and forget to pull the chute. No plans to sit at home staring at the TV with a nurse wiping the corner of my mouth.
Working (generally) keeps you sharp. A dull mind is a wasted one.
Okey dokey, keep punching that clock......And back to cars.
I used to be huge car guy but bikes have almost completely replaced them. I still like to happen on a car show but don't have much interest getting one anymore. The thought of an old VW or an original mini still toy with me but a muscle car not so much.
That said IF you offer to loan me your muscle car I will gladly take it for a floggin.

I was in the market for a car in 2021. I was looking at WRX and STI's.
The used ones were asking for a price that is only 1-3k less than brand new, and they had 60,000 km + on them, and I had to run the risk of buying a car some clown tunes and tracked the crap out of it!
Sometimes new is way smarter. Right now, most motorcycles in excellent condition and less than a few years used are going for about what the new one costs. It's silly.
