Current Gas Prices - No one else concerned??

I have adjusted my driving habits already. Probably when gas went over $1/L I started avoiding extra trips. I'd try to do as much as possible on my drive home from work or if I had to go out to run some errands I'd try to accomplish as many things as possible in one outing.

I will be getting a truck later this year but I also think I'll end up with something like a Kawasaki KLX250 supermoto. That bike won't help much in the winter but it would make a big dent in the fuel bill during the riding season. Like others have said as the price of fuel goes up the hybrids and electric vehicles become more financially viable. I expect that we'll see more Teslas and Zeros.

I'm more upset by the 57% increase on my Union gas bill and the expected 40% hike on my hydro/water come May 1st. I can control how much fuel I use but it's harder to control things like utilities.

Difficult but not impossible. I think it's getting the the point where people aren't going to simply bend over and take it anymore. Be mindful of when you run the dishwasher and laundry, use a clothes line or drying rack whenever possible and wash with cold water. Shower at the gym. Use the save on energy coupons and load up on LED bulbs for in the house (I have 27 of them installed now in our most used areas). Etc. Etc.

Eventually we might be looking at more drastic changes. If natural gas prices keep going up we might switch to a wood pellet burning furnace, with the cost of wood pellets being so low the investment cost of a high efficiency wood pellet furnace can be paid off fairly quick.

Will the purchase price and cost to maintain/insure a bike offset the "extra" you may spend in gas by not buying it?

My experience with LED's has been horrible, but then again I've bought cheap ones. Based on my experience with the cheap ones, I am extremely hesitant to drop serious coin on "better" ones in fear of them not lasting either. I saw some at costco that I was thinking about getting for my pot lights in the basement (8) and it would have been over 100$. That's a little steep in my book.

I've already trained the family to do dish washing and such after 7. There's really no reason not too. My last bill came in with 1512kW/h off times, and 700kW/h mid and on peak together.

Getting a wood burning stove scares me because look what happened in Montreal with the banning. Then I have neighbours that had their insurance threaten to drop them if they keep their wood stove.

Anyway, IMO I wish we would pay higher costs and pay the people around the world more fair prices. Call it brainwashing if you want, but I continually remind my children that we have it so good here because we exploit the poor of the world.

Holding off on the LED's is a good idea for now. They are getting better and cheaper. The stuff from even a year ago is obsolete garbage today.

Fill up my boat and then come talk to me 65 gallon yes gallon tank

I've had LEDs for over 2yrs now. No problems at all. I have some Energizer ones from Walmart that I paid $15 for one. That was my first one. I think it has paid for itself. I also bought some cheap Chinese ones. The larger bulbs are still going strong, but the small socket bulbs are done.

The thing about leds are they need a proper heatsink in order for them to last. If not they will just burn themselves out. Cheaper ones tend to not have a proper heatsink.

To add to Caboose, I also put my damp laundry in my furnace room in the winter. The dry air in there dries it pretty fast. In summer I have a clothesline. I never use my dryer

The family of the victim files a lawsuit even though the driver was found not at fault. No one cares, no one knows.

The driver files a counter-suit defending themselves based on them being found not at fault, and due to the financial hardship imposed by defending the initial lawsuit. Our "news" outlets only tell half the story, everyone loses their minds.

Trial by media. Well done.

Da fug? Are we still talking about gas prices? Talk about thread derailment, lolz

You have had good luck with a couple of lamps.

You wouldn't likely have the same to say if you had a half million dollar led retrofit done 2 years ago.

With the price they were going for, I definitely did not dump alot of $$ into it

It's more a matter of training my husband not to light up the house like a christmas tree!

I commute from Hamilton to North York every day, 186 km round trip + frequent day trips while at work = VERY EXPENSIVE !!
Seriously considering a hybrid.

Da faq?

I can't even imagine your 407+fuel expenses. I take the 407 daily (15km each 2ay) and it's about 200 a month!

Having my FZ6 on the road saves me money as the alternative is my truck.

Wood stove is different from a pellet furnace. There are also ones that are essentially a boiler room outside of the house.

I plan on basically being off grid eventually.

I currently commute 40kms one way 5 dys a week. I pay $120 per month for gas.

I love my Elantra, lol

Prime candidate for a Hybrid.

Get a nice Accord or Fusion. large comfy car, perfect for highway cruising, and have a little grunt. Not like those gutless Prius models. 50mpg to boot!

Yeah, I take the 407 one-way (home) each day. Last month's bill was $384 !!

I budget $120 per week in gas, works out to almost $500 per month in gas. Add my average monthly #407 (one-way) charge of $350, and I'm at $850 per month in travelling costs, not including wear and tear, and regular servicing every 1.5 months! lol

BTW, I have a 2011 Elantra... and she's not fuel efficient enough.

Better than a large car. Plus her tank is small.
