Craft Beer: What are you drinking now??

Montys aged ryed ale. Very very nice.

as for the Q about weizenbock, that's a bit stronger than the normal weissbiers that you can get. The weissbeers I had in Europe were mainly summer drinks served cool with a slice of lemon, very tasty. I like bocks all year round though. Come to that...I like beers all year round regardless of what kind they are. My favourites are dark treacly winter ales, I could drink those year round no problem.

I had another Westvleteren 12. Amazing. Even though redundant, I want to highlight the great ones (I have a lot of the WV12). https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/313/1545/

I also had a Harviestoun Brewery Old Engine Oil Porter. Beautiful. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/323/875/

Still have a WV12 and Duchesse de Bourgogne in the fridge, but I pulled out some more awesome beer for the fridge.

Rochefort 10. Best quad on the planet? https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/207/645/
Rochefort 8. Best dubbel on the planet?https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/207/1696/
Gulden Draak. Best strong dark belgian ale on the planet? https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/48/155/
Le Trois Mousquetaires Imperial Grand Cuvee Weizenbock. So indulgent. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/11056/44939/
La Chouffe. A great belgian strong pale ale that is easy to find and inexpensive. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/321/1836/
Cantillon Cuvee Saint Gilloise. A beautiful lambic gueuze. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/388/21683/
Le Trou Du Diable La Shawinigan Handshake. Seriously, check out the label. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/13605/63087/
Red Racer IPA. Best IPA in Canada? https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/10321/49058/

I'll be lucky to have 3 or so over the weekend, but I love my options. :agave:

Lots to look forward to. Drink well my friends.

Great list.
I haven't had any Westvleteren beer since my wife and I were at the Monastery back in 2009.
Also discovered La Chouffe when we were in the Ardennes on the same trip.
Managed to find some on Friday night - at of all places The Black Dog in Bayfield! What a trip down memory lane.
The wife had a Fruli and they also had Delirium Tremens!
Who'd a thunk it?
Stopped in at Black Swan in Straford on our way home yesterday and grabbed some of their excellent English Pale Ale and the latest version of their APA - The Galaxy Awakens. Really solid stuff.
Been loving the latest batch of Malevolent from Nickel Brook. Black IPAs - yum!

Cool memories. While Belgium is where it's at (lol), I've been able to get some amazing Belgian beer in Canada, and on tap, which is awesome. Toronto was one of a few places on the planet to get a Zwanze day recently. I've been able to cellar a large amount of Belgian trappist beer, I placed a large order the one time that WV12 was ever officially sold outside of the monastery in the last hundreds of years, and for which Canada was one of a few lucky countries to get in on.

I finally opened up that Gulden Draak early this week. Amazing. As I've said, it reminds me of a quad on steroids could be like. One of my top top favorite beers. A few La Chouffe this week too.

Nice stuff posted all.

Had this last night, reviewed it for the Bitter Canadian Beer Reviews. About as rare as it gets, 200 bottles from a brewery in Prince Edward County.

Stopped in at a new micro brewer called the Common Good Brewery in Scarborough.
Just found them and they are 3min from my house!
Had the APA, and IPA. Both were great.

WRT the WV12 talk earlier, for those that want to read the great back story to when Westvleteren 12 became available for the first and only time in over 300 years outside of the monastery gate (and to Canada, one of only a few lucky countries), here are some links.

The LCBO got a few packs back then and it sold out in 4 minutes.

Doppel Hirsch strong German beer. Very chewy, very nice. Supposedly won worlds best beer award in 2012.

Like sours at all? Try out Forked River's "The Oracle." I think you'll appreciate my recommendation. Or, if you don't like barrel flavour and want something a bit lighter, try Bellwoods' Jelly King sour. I am entirely enamored of both of them.

Im good with lambic and Belgian gertze (probably spelled that wrong). Tried a craft brew sour at Stone city and I don't think they got it right. I think it's a difficult beer to get right. I think the Belgian stuff is spontaneously brewed in open roof buildings with wild yeast so it's not exactly easy to replicate. I love it when done properly though.

As everyone can tell, I love sours. Thx for the recommendations! I've enjoyed a few Bellwoods sours. Awesome.

I find that as well. Not a lot of sours out there in my experience have competed with the Belgian lambics. And belgian lambics only originate from one small area in Belgium, the Zenne valley. Its source is a very small ecosystem, and the results speak for itself. Amazing imo that enthusiasts here can get there hands on it with some regularity now. And gueuze it is, which is actually a blend of lambics.

From wiki,
Lambic [are] brewed in the Pajottenland region of Belgium southwest of Brussels and in Brussels itself at the Cantillon Brewery. Lambic beers include gueuze and kriek lambic. Unlike most beers, which are fermented with carefully cultivated strains of brewer's yeast, lambic is fermented spontaneously by being exposed to wild yeasts and bacteria native to the Zenne valley in which Brussels lies. This process gives the beer its distinctive flavour: dry, vinous, and cidery, usually with a sour aftertaste.

Black Bellows White...from Black Bellows brewery in Collingwood. A really good version of a Belgian Witbier. This would be even better on a hot day with a slice of orange or lemon in I think.

If only we had some hot days... :(
