Crackhead broke into my neighbour's house just now

@fastar1: if someone broke into my house I would feel that my safety was being threatened and would probably come across as an aggressor. I wouldn't ask them kindly to leave. ;) I would also think that if someone is brazen enough to break into a house in daylight, through the front door, and within sight of several people at the swimming pool, then he is prepared for confrontation and will react accordingly. I realize the law doesn't reflect the logic in that, but law be damned. My safety and life is more important than law. I think you know what I mean...

@RetroGrouch: yes. I've read the stories lately. In particular, that one in NS where a would-be thief was mauled by the dog. The cops held the dog down and shot it. Idiots. A dog will protect itself when threatened. Any animal would. Can't blame a dog for that.

@hondahhh: "dental dam for the dog." I LOLed!

Oh and after re-reading your original post, *don't* feel more secure just because you have an ADT security system. Trust.

When seconds count, the police are only minutes away. Keep a can of wasp spray by your front door - wasps can be nasty little buggers!

Your inbox is bursting at the seams apparently, i'm trying to send you the condensed version of "waterloo cracktimes" (still working on the title)

I got a message saying it was full, so I just deleted the last 4 messages from you to make space. :P So go ahead and send.

I wish the inbox would hold more than like, 20 messages at a time.

You've got to be ****ing kidding me...

I know this guy.... had similar incidents that you had with asking for money, then demanding, knocking on my door..

It ended with him walking into my house... and meeting my dog and him running off.

I was home and only got downstairs in time to find my front door open and him taking off down the street. I haven't seen him since. I can probably get you his address if you want it. I did talk to the cops too, but more so to confirm my rights if and when he returned.... while I waited for their arrival of course... and have a report on file incase.

Cops told me he is fair game for the dog inside the house... as long as he does not actually consume any part of him! Basically, he can chew but not eat...

You're not kidding... are you? Does he indeed live in the Middleton Way townhouses? That's really close to where I live. This guy sounds like a psycho. Glad your dog scared him off. And I'll let my dog know that he can bite, but don't swallow anyone's face. "Spit it out! Spit it out! Good boy." LOL

Yes, he does.

I'm getting the feeling there is no Mr. Stormcat.

I moved up to Peterborough and about a month ago, someone got stabbed 2 doors down, and there's always crack heads out side. I'm always worried they're going to steal my bike. It sucks that you can't really avoid this type of stuff any where you go, unless you're rich

Just be happy you don't live in the yorku campus then you'd have to worry about being raped and stabbed.

PS: Enough of the sob story about the starving crackhead home invaders, their rights are checked at the door when he decides to invade the personal space of innocent people

That is crazy, I have to agree with you on that. I own this one. ;)

A crackhead will not stop. They need their fix and will get it anywhere

Amen to that! No shotty for me since i dont have a big enough safe, but a 9mm is pretty effective for any sort of an intruder...

Wow.... Well, it sounds as though you've pretty much covered your bases as best as you can. Personally, with the way the cops can be if you defend yourself, I don't know if a baseball bat is the way to go these days. You might want to ask what your options are...or what the penalties are if you do hurt an intruder...then go from there. I know my Mom has a wood bat and has for many, many years. It even has a brass plaque on it that reads 'Wolf Whacker' (for the wolf at the door)

;) However, as I recall, the Saskatoon Police don't seem too concerned with an intruders well-being (when you defend yourself from one) the way they are here.

Good luck with the situation....sounds like a tough/stressful one to be in.

You can use reasonable force to subdue and that's about it. You can take them down but can't beat the snot out of them.

Your firearms should be securely locked and your ammo locked separately.
I assume you're going to tell the judge that your ran up and unlocked your shotty, unlocked the ammo, loaded it and shot the intruder? That's enough time for you to call 911 and all of those steps would show premeditation.

too bad she's just a kid.... :snorting:

and this is more controllable than a bat...

Are blackjacks even legal for civilians?

Where's Turbodish? We need a cop's input on this.

Tonfa.
In Canada, there is no specific law that prohibits batons; except for spring loaded batons, which are defined as a prohibited weapon However, it is a crime under section 90 of the Criminal Code of Canada to carry any weapon, including a baton, in a concealed fashion.

And the cops that have seen mine had no issue with them.
