Crackhead broke into my neighbour's house just now

A few months ago this really creepy guy approached me in my driveway late at night and asked (more like demanded) money. I gave an aggressive no. He then tried to get me to give him a "drive to Oakville to see his sick mother," and again I gave him the 'don't F with me vibe' and said no. About 10 days later, he came to my door at 11:00 on a Sunday morning and asked for money again. That was it, I went and filed a police report. Apparently Peel Regional Officers knows this character well. I also had a home alarm system installed and paid upfront for the first 6 months of monitoring with ADT. In your face, crackhead!

This afternoon I look out my living room window and the street is blocked off. Cruisers, SWAT and a K9 unit. They're all over my neighbour's house 3 doors down. They have the entire street blocked off, cruisers roving the adjacent schoolyard, etc. I've never experienced this sort of thing before in my 38 years of life, so I go to talk to my neighbours about what's happening. It was the crackhead again! He broke into my neighbour's home, in broad daylight no less. She was down at the pool with her little ones and watched him do it. Holy <expletive>! She called the police and they were here pretty quick. But the slimy fugger got away. *sigh* And apparently hers was not the first house he has broken into on my little crescent. He has also been caught several times breaking into cars, and another neighbour saw him get busted at the local Sobey's when he tried to make a run for it with a shopping cart full of meat.

Just what kind of neighbourhood did I move into?! I'm going baseball bat shopping later. This is getting ridiculous.

Out of curiousity, what part of Brampton are you in? I have a sister who lives in the Mavis/Williams Pkwy area and she had an incident a few weeks back with some kinda cracked-out psycho.

Oh and after re-reading your original post, *don't* feel more secure just because you have an ADT security system. Trust.

perhaps it is one half of the sticky dandits..... or was it the wet bandits? i cant remember. lol
(extra points for the person that knows what movie that is from)

what area you in?
maybe your experience could help others keep a look out.

good idea on the alarm and bat shopping.

I'm at Williams Parkway and MacKay.

Description:
Really tall and super, super skinny.
Dresses like a homeboy with the loose, low slung jeans, oversized hoodie, baseball cap.
He has a really big head. Sounds funny, but it makes him stand out that much more.
Dark skinned, not sure of his ethnicity. The cops told me when I filed the report that he's Ethiopian, but I couldn't confirm that.
Looks to be in his early to mid 20s.

That pretty much describes around 15% of the Brampton population, unfortunately. So not the best to go on. If I see him again I'll try to get pics.

Apparently he's been busted for this stuff repeatedly, but every time he's released and he's right back at it again. Dude isn't learning his lesson.

What lesson? Get a suit and tie and start job hunting?

A job would be a great place for this loser to start. He doesn't seem scared by my current large, 90 lb dog.

It can happen anywhere. We live in a very quiet part of Waterloo and a crackhead walked into the house on a sunday afternoon and took my wifes wallet.I don't take the garbage out without locking the door now.

Wow.... Well, it sounds as though you've pretty much covered your bases as best as you can. Personally, with the way the cops can be if you defend yourself, I don't know if a baseball bat is the way to go these days. You might want to ask what your options are...or what the penalties are if you do hurt an intruder...then go from there. I know my Mom has a wood bat and has for many, many years. It even has a brass plaque on it that reads 'Wolf Whacker' (for the wolf at the door) ;) However, as I recall, the Saskatoon Police don't seem too concerned with an intruders well-being (when you defend yourself from one) the way they are here.

Good luck with the situation....sounds like a tough/stressful one to be in.

Wow, up until the dark skin thing, I totally thought I knew who you were talking about. I'm down off Hanover at Queen and Dixie and I have a drug house right around the corner. Well it really seems like a drug house, but I can't say I've actually bought drugs from there, but it's pretty obvious.

He's probably homeless, he's probably starving, and he's probably an addict. You think jail time is going to teach him to get a job?

No offense, but gotta agree with this.

People like this are gonna be messed up no matter what 'options' you throw at them.

I was told he lives on Milton Street, Milton Way, Middleton Way? (I have no idea, I don't know Brampton). And of course, that's hearsay anyway. He looks too well dressed for someone homeless. I don't think he is. I think he has a home and is an addict of some sort.

I am 90% sure if crackhead broke into my house that my dog would eat his face. But I can't be too sure about that, so I'll still look into acquiring some sort of innocuous looking weapon.

As much as I agree you need to be prepared to defend yourself, keep in mind that from everything you've said so far he hasn't shown any inclination to be violent towards anybody. Of course that can change and you need to be prepared for it, but just try not to become the aggressor.

Maybe you shouldn't let that happen. If your dog seriously injured someone, even a potentially dangerous intruder, your dog could very well be put down.

Jail has a revolving door for those d bags. it kind of makes a joke of our legal system.

I've got a good crackhead/sledge hammer story. It's better told in person though heh heh heh :)

Even when they catch that dummy, he'll just make his way back again, or another one just like him.

Oh yeah, there's a good chance hes got hepatitis or something else along those lines, so keep your distance(crossbow?) maybe get your dog a dental dam if hes gonna start eating face.
