They are in the area of context if you are acting in a reasonable manner there shouldn't be a issue and if you are contacted by the police while carrying one and aren't a jerk about them asking there wont be a problem. Are those things legal to walk around with here?
Makes sense. Same as you can carry a pocketknife to 'open packages' but to 'defend yourself' is a different story. They are in the area of context if you are acting in a reasonable manner there shouldn't be a issue and if you are contacted by the police while carrying one and aren't a jerk about them asking there wont be a problem.
If you are acting threatening nearly anything in your control can be construed as a weapon and get you charged.
The key is using some common sense with your behavior and you should be fine in the eyes of the law.
BMD has a point i generally don't carry a sjambok in urban areas but in a rural setting sometimes i willI think the best bet is to carry something that is obviously for another purpose that can be used if required. MP has the right idea.
Reasonable manner or not, something that serves only as a weapon is more likely to get you in trouble even if not used. Maybe the courts will decide no harm no foul but how many $$$s does that cost?
I’m sure if they played Celine Dion on the thing it would keep pretty much everything away.BMD has a point i generally don't carry a sjambok in urban areas but in a rural setting sometimes i will
Be aware that a collapsible walking stick could be interpreted as a collapsible baton which is a prohibited weapon.
I usually have my sjambok hanging from a coat hook near the back door where it is barely noticeable but accessible in a hurry if needed.
Some of the other dog walkers around here are carrying those small BT boomboxes playing music at fairly low volume to give the youts a warning that they are coming and its time to go. Word is that it works OK.
