COVID and the housing market

Canada is a dump of left wing insane policies and out of control taxation with a lot more to come .
Canadians hate success , freedoms , entrepreneurship and individuality. Thye hate people that standout and go out of their way to block or ban that person from groups they are in ( just look at online forums how cliquey and uptight they are )
They love to tear you down to make themselves feel better,
Look at the government policies , all about punishing success and rewarding losers.
Criminals are rewarded and law abiding citizens punished , cut a kids head off and eat it you are out on the street in a few years with us paying for you to live ....legally own and use a gun at a range and you are pretty much considered a criminal and your property seized, same if you drive too fast.
we allow foreigners to buy houses with cash with no tracing where the money came from ( money laundering) then we as citizens can’t buy a car for cash or make a deposit in a bank over 10 grand without the government having to be notified .
We have hundreds of thousands of people who come here get citizenship and go back to the old country to live , pay no tax here and return here only for medical care
The top income tax rate is 55 percent and after that you then have to pay 13 percent in sales tax on anything you buy.
Everything takes forever to get done with multiple meetings and discussions and committees that go nowhere ( look at the waterfront in toronto for an example )
Italy is my first choice due to lifestyle .
I can’t stay away for 6 months and come back for 6 months due to our horses and dogs . I can’t fly them back and forth twice a year , that isn’t feasible.
Yes I have the means to leave but do I want to sell my business give up millions of dollars in exit tax at this point in my life ?im going to grow it to the point I don’t care about giving up the money as much ... I’m Not ready yet but the time will come soon where giving up the money will override any need or want to live here .
‘I could go on and on but the above are some of the big points as to why Canada is crap.
too many rules , too much tax, too much infringing on personal freedoms and too many jealous petty people
I agree with some stuff. If you fix your home up and make the neighbourhood a better place your property taxes go up. If you want them to go down stop moving the lawn, leave a rusty pickup on the lawn, cover a few windows with cheap plywood and nail some beer cans on the roof to look like patches.

There is a contradiction in that you mention money laundering through foreign house buyers but then dislike large cash deposit rules which were instituted because of undeclared income.

When the USA had slavery it was illegal to teach a slave to read or write because knowledge is power. Our education system is better than that but not enough to make people realize how they're being taken. Want proof? As you drive around, see how many cheque cashing services there are. Borrow $200 for two weeks for $20. I can't get $2 for a year for a $200 bank deposit.

Some things can be changed relatively quickly. Just give the politicians and their friends time to move their holdings.

Education is different. On top of the time to teach there is the time needed to erase the old habits.

I have lost faith in Canada as many have. Fewer and fewer believe Canada will be there for them when a crunch comes. Screw or get screwed.

Being born here my options are limited. The exit taxes would be a killer so I'm stuck.

So don't renounce citizenship. Years ago I was taking money out of a CIBC RRSP and they wanted a $200 fee to close it. I ask what happened if transferred the money out but didn't close it. No fee. Ok, do that. I have had an empty CIBC RRSP account for the last decade.

my plan even pre covid and still was to move to cali, got some relatives in nor cal and it's pretty effin nice especially if you're into riding year round

can’t leave permanently without getting rid of citizenship

I wasn’t contradicting the money laundering rules versus the large deposit rules I was saying it’s not fair that there is one rule but not the other.

That's not poor education.

That's just poor impulse control.

You could stand outside those cheque cashing places and try to tell people how they're being taken advantage of, and they'll just push past you and still take that payday loan.

Mama needs a new pair of shoes, ain't nobody with a blackboard and chalk gonna stand in her way!

California is more of the lefty hell than Canada is. California is losing population so much they just lost a seat because of it during the census. Move to Texas or Tennessee or somewhere else

You can lose residency (ohip etc) without losing citizenship.
Depending on the country you go to you might have to give up citizenship to live there permanently. And if you kept citizenship in Canada you would have to file a tax return there and in the country you live in and pay taxes in both places.I have to talk to an immigration lawyer to figure out all the details

Tax return in Canada is easy and cheap if your income is low there. Business provides executive housing and cars (taxable benefit there?). Market investments exist outside of scrutiny. You are working to grow the value of the business not to collect substantial income now. Business can have a partner that lives outside of scrutiny that collects most of the profits.

I didn't think many countries required you to dump the home country? Obviously there are a few. Not much you can do about that.

This is a list of countries that do not recognize the law of second or dual nationality, and if any of their nationals has applied for second citizenship from other countries directly lose the first citizenship, so if you are considering applying for second citizenship it is necessary to check the laws of your country.

It’s not that simple unfortunately. So many different rules and jurisdictions.

@Evoex add the United States to that list...hubby's sister moved to KY years ago as a travelling nurse...she's been working on a VISA for years, however last year, became a US citizen and had to give up her Canadian citizenship in order to do so...

Odd. I have family who are dual citizens.

Scheer, who was the former leader of the Conservative party is a dual citizen.

You can come this way, you can't go that way. Well technically you can go that way, you renounce, get US citizenship, move to canada, apply for canadian and you have both again. US is too full of themselves.

I know but as more people flee the lefty cities and states they're going to these states how long before these states turn blue as well? Texas is already close to it and you'd never think that would happen there of all places

What exit taxes are you talking about? I’ve moved abroad twice, I don’t recall paying an exit tax. I did have to liquidate rrsp accounts which hurt, but there wasn’t really a loss as I didn’t pay tax on that money.

i work for an international company, I can relocate anywhere, anytime. If I could convince my wife to go, I’d be in Florida tomorrow.
