Could Buell be making a comeback w/20K streetbike?

Wouldn't be possible to take a Harley engine (Vrod aka VRSC) and use it as the base? Nobody complians about the Vrod performance or reliability. Reusing an existing motor would speed things up.

It would never have a chance as a pure sport bike
I'd say to remove the plastic

Interesting design, i dig it. Although painting it all black is a bit of a cheat, any bike looks good all black. Does it still have the Rotax engine?

I like it, it's a yah here!

For the people who don't know much about Buell bikes...
The common elements all of the last few bikes had were:
Fuel in Frame
Perimeter Front Brake

Most used Harley Sportster engines (heavily modded).
1125r Platform used a Rotax V-Twin.

EBR (Erik Buell Racing - a completely different company):
Completely redesigned 1125 platform to make 1190rs, using similar fuel in frame and brakes.
Engines start as 1125 motors, ripped apart, blue printed, high end parts added, bored to 1190 cc's.

The 1190rs is currently racing in the AMA Superbike class and is consistently in the top 5-10 positions. Don't know if they've podium'd or not yet this year (follow WSBK much more than AMA).

Now, comparing the 1190rs to the 1125r would be like comparing a Ducati Panigale to an older 848. Same company, similar design concepts (externally at least in this case) but not anywhere near the same bike at all.

I'm guessing that the majority of the 1190rs platform ($40K) will be identical to the $20K "Streetier" version, but the engines will have the titanium upgrades removed, lower end suspension/wheels/regular bodywork instead of carbon fibre, etc etc etc.

Marco --- the V-Rod engine was commissioned by Buell when it was still part of HD. Engine was designed by Porsche. Was supposed to go into Buell's first serious liquid powered sport bike, but HD decided they wanted a liquid cooled cruiser. They saw the motor, decided it just wouldn't look good in a cruiser and promptly added 70 (SEVENTY!!!) pounds of dead weight to square areas off etc, just so it looked good in a cruiser. So, Buell dropped it.

Its a cool looking bike for sure, but waaay overpriced currently.

It's only a matter of time until EBR releases an affordable street legal 1190. Strip out the pricey parts to put it at a competitive price point and I imagine it will sell enough to make it worth while. I just hope they come out with a naked/streetfighter equivalent. I'd sooner buy that then the faired version. Something along the lines of the Typhoon prototype

That's exactly what I want...Typhon.

EBR has Rotax engine with bigger pistons and more power than Panigale, only drawback is somewhat narrow power band. It is all carbon fiber, couple of months ago in a magazine they said after riding EBR 1190 RS ducati 848 feels like a truck.
Designed by Porsche on not VROD engine is huge and weighs more than 200 lbs.

Its actually a really good brake design. Franz on his Buell, and I on my GSXR, were having late braking wars on a golo track day a few years back. That bike can brake surprising late, and effectively as well.

Having ridden the Buell with the 1190 Rotax, I'll say that it was a fun bike and the twin makes plenty of power.

Where on earth did you get to ride an 1190?!?!
There were 100 made for general sale with the rest going to race teams....
And not many people I know have $40K to drop on a bike....

that's a nice looking bike.

Actually, I mispoke... it was the 1125R. My mistake. It's been two years, that's my excuse.

Looks like Buell could have a pretty sexy streetbike coming out... and i guess they have some investors to get it made. You guys think it'll be a close contender VS. Ducati and BMWs? I'm skeptical.

Check it out: Buell fueled with $20M investment, plans $20K streetbike

Bike is already out saw it at pro Italian in California it was also featured in one of the cycle magazine. It uses a total engine. All the fairings are carbon fibre

Love to see Buell back! I have very good faith in Rotax myself...

ZTL brake, fuel in frame, and
oil tank swingarm are their signature innovations. Better not loss them and become "just another one of those"!
