For the people who don't know much about Buell bikes...
The common elements all of the last few bikes had were:
Fuel in Frame
Perimeter Front Brake
Most used Harley Sportster engines (heavily modded).
1125r Platform used a Rotax V-Twin.
EBR (Erik Buell Racing - a completely different company):
Completely redesigned 1125 platform to make 1190rs, using similar fuel in frame and brakes.
Engines start as 1125 motors, ripped apart, blue printed, high end parts added, bored to 1190 cc's.
The 1190rs is currently racing in the AMA Superbike class and is consistently in the top 5-10 positions. Don't know if they've podium'd or not yet this year (follow WSBK much more than AMA).
Now, comparing the 1190rs to the 1125r would be like comparing a Ducati Panigale to an older 848. Same company, similar design concepts (externally at least in this case) but not anywhere near the same bike at all.
I'm guessing that the majority of the 1190rs platform ($40K) will be identical to the $20K "Streetier" version, but the engines will have the titanium upgrades removed, lower end suspension/wheels/regular bodywork instead of carbon fibre, etc etc etc.
Marco --- the V-Rod engine was commissioned by Buell when it was still part of HD. Engine was designed by Porsche. Was supposed to go into Buell's first serious liquid powered sport bike, but HD decided they wanted a liquid cooled cruiser. They saw the motor, decided it just wouldn't look good in a cruiser and promptly added 70 (SEVENTY!!!) pounds of dead weight to square areas off etc, just so it looked good in a cruiser. So, Buell dropped it.
