We were supposed to have reps from one of our customers come from Detroit last week. Day before the big guy came out and told us anyone that didn't feel comfortable with them there could stay home with pay. Everyone was of the opinion we have work to do, as long as they're not cold sweating and hacking up a lung, no big deal. They ended up being turned back at the border. They weren't billionaires with Ministerial Exemptions.

He could try but I think it would be a rough go. It sounds like there are barriers and he can wear a mask. If MOL declared his workplace unsafe, that would open up the floodgates for pretty much every complaint to succeed. Politics would prevent that in my opinion. To be clear, I dont like how grt are dealing with it but I would be shocked if he received official support due to the fallout.
This has already been tried via work refusals before I got sick. All that got done was some modifications to the barriers.

Ministry Of Labor has been in and in their opinion our workplace is safe. At this point it is going to take either an edict from the Province or a change of heart by Regional Council who ultimately are who pulls the strings at GRT. Public sentiment is largely against the drivers and our preceived mask adherence so there is currently little public outcry or sentiment to address mask adherence from the customers.

Meanwhile GRT and other transit companies are inadvertently causing Covid transmission Province wide. Again, OC Transpo is an example of.how this should be addressed and handled.

why didnt they fly?

Under the age of 50, 11 people in Ontario have died.

Protect the vulnerable, let the rest of us get on with our lives.

So, according to your logic, everyone over 50 isn't important to the economy?
Sure, it sucks being cooped up.
But, the sense of "me first - screw the rest" has got to go. The whole world is in this. Several countries have got it beat, or nearly so.
The rest of the world, well, it's our own fault that things aren't going as planned. Too many self entitled snowflakes that beat their chests and complain about having to wear masks 'cause it's impairing their freedumbs. Sigh.

sadly i fear no matter how well we do, as soon as we open the border we'll take 3 steps back.

Australia just reported no new coronavirus cases for the first time in 5 months.
As long as they keep their quarantine process in place they can get back to life as normal, their tourist industry will take a hit though as most people won't want to fly for 20hrs then be stuck in a quarantine hotel for 2 weeks before they can be let out into the general population.

No shirt, no shoes, no mask - no service. If you don’t like masks, use one of those flip down shields.

Maybe those who need a medical exception should wear a tag that is issued by public health.

I’m kinda with you on that however the reality is that strategy has not worked anywhere.

Not a bad plan, but we all know how easily those systems get exploited (see wheelchair passes for cars). For the exceedingly small percentage of people that legitimately cannot wear masks for a medical reason, I would rather provide them support to keep them safe and isolated from others (delivery, sanitary transport to doctor appt, etc). An infection would kill them. I suspect the number of people that legitimately cant wear a mask for medical reasons in ontario will be three or four digits. Everyone else can wear a mask or stay the #^%#@ home.

The slower the better. Keep the hospitals and ICUs from getting overwhelmed. We can't stop this but if we throttle it then we can hopefully not overwhelm the health care system and have a better chance of protecting the most vulnerable.

Also, we are continually learning about this virus and the treatment protocols have continually adapted and improved. The worst thing we could do is to do little to nothing to mitigate the spread.

Hmmm.
Kill economy or kill people.

Care to volunteer to be one of the dead?
I wonder how much of your wealth are you willing to give up to stay safe ? All you own all your wealth or you get a choice .

You get to choose to be safe but you give up everything . I guarantee your safety . The choice is you pick from a bowl of 100 smarties . One smarty has the VID . That does not mean you will die 98.5% have no symptoms if you catch it . Then you pick from another bowl with 100 smarties this time you may get ill but will recover . Now the third bowl has the smarty with the VID that will kill you . What will you do ?

Many people are losing everything because of this . They will never recover .

I have a steady paycheck . But I care about others that don't .

Many people have died from hospitals being closed . Heart patients died and cancers not being diagnosed . Mental illness is on the rise . The substance abuse is going through the roof .Suicides are up . But hey we can drag this on forever . Never mind the others .

It's Movember, but beards mess up masks.

Have a look over in Europe for what happens if you have a free for all. The UK has warned that if cases keep spiralling then triage in hospitals will be choosing who lives and dies and they don’t mean all cases with Covid but Covid patients are clogging the beds. They are now locked down in France, Germany and England because of this.

There’s plenty of instances of what happens under your scenario playing out all over the world. Look at them. Is that what you want?

I'd rather be a Taiwan then a US, rather be an Australia than an England.

Just open your eyes and look at what’s going on all over the world.
