Late surge from the US. This isn't going to be pretty As with all data right now, I don't like the source data for a variety of reasons, but it's all we have at the moment.
I am. They had a chance at stopping this ****, and ****** around before their major clampdown. Is anybody mad at the Chinese gov't?
And now it is our governments turn to waffle and delay. It's amazing that each successive layer hopes that they can do less than those before them with different results.I am. They had a chance at stopping this ****, and ****** around before their major clampdown.
WHO also shares some of that blame. They weren't forceful enough in their warnings, and now they 'did everything we could'. But that's also to be put on governments around the world that didn't listen.
Lots of blame to go around, but the next few weeks are critical if we want to get this thing under control.
I agree with you 100%. Even though it will hurt, and be VERY painful for all...I think we should clamp down hard, and take a hard stance against violators. I was praying my flight would be cancelled so I don't have to go to BC...now I'm sitting in a hotel room for 3 days because the site is scared of my cough and they're deciding whether to let me on or not.And now it is our governments turn to waffle and delay. Fine, but how long does a gov't get to coverup a crisis? Not to be a pain but this can happen again wherever there’s a large number of animals in proximity to humans on a constant basis. Intensive farming practices are just as susceptible to this kind of virus rearing it’s ugly head in the future. The bird flu epidemic showed us that.
We are doing the same thing, just on a smaller scale. They announced they were closing Wuhan prior to doing it allowing people to flee. JT announced that travellers finally must self-isolate instead of just asking them to, but that doesn't start until midnight. If stopping/isolating travellers is required, there should be no delay between the proclamation and enforcement. "Effective immediately . . ." There should be no asking people to do it. It should have been an order from day one. It is a temporary isolation, you are not substantially infringing on any individuals rights and you are making a huge difference to the health of society at large. Politely asking was just weak and dumb.Fine, but how long does a gov't get to coverup a crisis?
The Wuhan epicenter, they were way past the accelerating stage of an epidemic by the time the world got notice. By the time they announced the epidemic and closed Wuhan, thousands of infected people had made they way around the world sewing the seeds for a global pandemic.
After this settles I wonder if there will be a call for reparations?
Agreed. And if they are caught out there, take names and publish them -- like they do with drunk drivers. We are doing the same thing, just on a smaller scale. I won't put too much into this rumour, but our neighbour's son is going to RMC in Kingston. They've been (apparently) given notice to prepare for deployment in the GTA to enforce the 'lockdown'. Not sure how much faith to put into it, but makes sense to bring in the reserves and cadets to keep an eye out.The provincial state of emergency does several things but one that hasn’t been mentioned much is that it’s the first step required before the military can be called in for civilian issues.
It's a great idea. More eyes to yell at the people that need that type of reinforcement.I won't put too much into this rumour, but our neighbour's son is going to RMC in Kingston. Yes, and right now many of those soldiers are at home in quarantine, it would be nice to believe the already working civilian police force is sufficient to protect and enforce civil laws when there is nobody here except residents. What would you have the military do, block the roads and blow the bridges? The provincial state of emergency does several things but one that hasn’t been mentioned much is that it’s the first step required before the military can be called in for civilian issues.
A lot of Toronto precincts have very few police in them at night (two or four). Police are paid so much, their numbers are entirely inadequate if anything more than response to isolated incidents is required.Yes, and right now many of those soldiers are at home in quarantine, it would be nice to believe the already working civilian police force is sufficient to protect and enforce civil laws when there is nobody here except residents. Original address was more of a plea as I recall then politely asking, but that is the Canadian way and relies on peoples intelligence and understanding the importance of a message being delivered in a way as to not incite mass panic. :| we don't usually open with baton and shield wielding troops, that's a different country.
Yes.What would you have the military do, block the roads and blow the bridges?
where do I sign up?Yes.
You're too old.where do I sign up?
I could still blow up a bridge with the best of them. You're too old.
Not many people have practical bridge blowing up experience anymore. I have faith in you trials.I could still blow up a bridge with the best of them.
