Good to hear that they're opening up the provincial parks for people to go out and walk etc. I honestly think that the fact that a lot of recreational places like Provincial parks and other recreational land has been closed has actually been counterproductive as people were finding other places to go instead which were arguably far more risky.

I'm still struggling with the logic why they continue to restrict camping however. I get it that the provincial parks now need to get started with opening procedures (turning on water systems, etc...although arguably they could/should have been doing that anyways, the staff were still all working....) but private parks are almost certainly ready to go. And restricting crown land camping is frankly, stupid - my daughter and her BF have been sitting on their hands for 2 or 3 weeks now itching to go camping - they'd have been gone out in the middle of some Crown Land for weeks now if they'd been allowed - instead they're lingering in town without much to do and walking in places that are arguably far more risky.

And Marinas are still hanging in limbo. They got the OK to start opening procedures, but the public is still not allowed on the property. Hard to say if that'll be opened up before the long weekend or not at this point. Makes planning very, very hard when your boat needs special equipment to get it in. Arguably another extremely low risk place that would serve to get people AWAY from the crowds.

Govt is still waffling and causing confusion. Parks are opening but in the same announcement they say not to travel for recreation. The intent is you are supposed to go to the nearest park but no hard line or even a real effort to push that point. Eediots.

It was specfically mentioned today in the news conference that people should use their local park.

But honestly, camping and outdoor park use has to be on of the absolute lowest risk things out there to begin with. If they WANT to get a ton of people to willfully go sit in the middle of nowhere and isolate until their heart is content this summer...make the campgrounds free and reopen crown land camping.

Yes, there's some minor risk with interactions (check in at the gatehouse, etc) but that's easily manageable. Bathrooms could be an issue, but plunk some porta potties in the park instead (on person per enclosure) and that problem is mostly solved - most parks already have the solo shower houses.

I think the big concern with campgrounds is shared infrastructure
bathrooms, showers, rec centres, boat launches etc

private campgrounds have opened to seasonal customers
with self contained trailers including water, sewer and power
I'm going up Tuesday for a couple of days to work on mine

but I think the biggest concern is people moving around
I had a convo with my MPP's office and that's the explanation I got
with woefully inadequate testing and contact tracing methods
they want people to stay in their own communities

the rural townships are also driving this with their city people discriminatory attitudes

redditors are having fun with the armed protest dorks

i was mulling over that and yeah...one group calls another over to their site for a campfire and beer...

yup

and because we're only testing sick people
you could be infected and stop at the LCBO, grocery store, firewood place
and leave the virus in your wake in a rural area with very poor healthcare facilities

nothing would be known until there's an infection cluster and no clue how it got there
we need to ramp up our testing abilities and contact tracing methodology

Douggeee? are you there? Helllooooooooo......

I just gotta pop in for some smokes.

The next wave and spike are not far off IMO. I was working (alone) on a lake erie cottage, nieghbors kids all playing together outside, nieghbors visiting back and forth carrying coffee.
Cottage country Mayors saying dont come to town when your out of beer. Long Point Haldiman county, keeping long point closed, you cannot visit your cottage, they dont need or want you.
Why cant we camp? unless your ******** in the bush, or your tent, whos cleaning the potti after every customer. Why cant I sit on my boat? because you need to walk down a dock thats 4ft wide to get there. And its -1 out this morning. I'll keep being careful, but its really hard surrounded by folks that think if the gov't says open a bit, well open alot is fine to.

Televidiots Those who arm themselves in preparation for the zombi attacks that are sure to follow any pandemic

Went to HD this Morning and there was about 50/50 of customers and staff that had masks and gloves. More customers than staff for sure wearing them. No line up first thing and they opened early which made it nice to get in and out quickly.

There will be a spike for sure. It won't be pandemic numbers. The only way around it is to keep everyone at home until they come up with a vaccine, which is a good year out, give or take. That's not feasible no matter how you look at it. There will be nothing left to come back to.

Corona Virus world wide has gone from 1 to 4,000,000 in about five months. One third of that is the USA in less time with some measures in place. We don't know all the numbers world wide either due to testing limitations.

We have two or three more five month periods before a vaccine is in hand but the start point is not ONE individual. Instead we have four million spreaders. Stick those number projections on an exponential graph.

The eventual outcome is dependent on burn though theories, politics, human resilience, economics and tin foil hats. The number of experts on the subject has gone from 1 to 4,000,000 just as fast.

Keeping everyone at home is not viable unless everyone has an old fashioned farm where there's a cow in the barn next to the chicken coop on enough acreage to grow mixed veggies to can or store in a root cellar.

Our food supply chain is being disrupted by the changing patterns of eating. Meat, egg and potato has been in over production for the present situation and if production is cut back there could be a shortage when people adjust.

The boat is going to keep rocking for a long time.

more risky.

I always wanted to be there when they launched my boat. Usually the weekend before it got anti fouling. When the boat was in the water I tied it off, place bumpers, checked for leaks and started the motor.

Banning owners for the launch isn't a good idea. The launches could be staggered odd berths one day even the next to allow for distancing. Once they're in the policing rules become a new headache.

first day with hardware stores open
went to Rona - as they suck, assuming the lines would be shorter
they were, got what I needed and out fairly quickly

after that stopped at a grocers as the outside lineup was shortish

both stores: zero staff wearing masks
myself and 2 other customers wearing masks in total for the outing
close to zero attempt by customers to safe distance

this is a stark contrast to the behavior of around 2 weeks ago
our numbers are gong to increase

If there was a guarantee that self protection would protect you the "Let it burn through" concept could be good for you, other than having to step around the dead bodies. Unfortunately there is no closed club that assures you of a food supply and other needs from another closed club member.

Unless you don't wash your hands after using the bathroom there's no more risk using a public bathroom than there is going grocery shopping.

As for Marinas, don't lump them all together. Yes, there are some that the dock setup poses a problem, but it's not insurmountable - come up to someone else on the dock while walking to/from your boat? Step out on one of the fingers between boats and let them pass. And some marinas with large dock setups that have the option of making docks a one way affair like some grocery stores have done.

And lets not forget that pretty much the entire time you're at a marina you're outdoors! The stats show that the odds of infection while outdoors are infinitesimally low unless someone who is positive basically sneezes/coughs in your face or upwind of you within a few feet.

And then there's the millions of smaller marinas across the country like the one where my sister and BIL's boat is moored at - these sorts of marinas present pretty much zero risk.
