Time of day thing maybe, but what about christian church bells???

Wake up with jet lag in a hotel in Italy, and those are kinda handy to find out what hour of the morning it is without finding the alarm clock and my glasses (to read the alarm clock ... I'm olde ...)

When I was travelling to Turkey lots (3x/month) for a while...I actually enjoyed listening to the call for prayer there...but I was THERE....where it was the culture for everyone and I was the outsider. Maybe it was because it made me feel like a part of the area, but I did enjoy it. Couldn't figure out what it was the first day or two though.

Can they add Karen to Jack and Sharon...I might finally get my Costco membership.

Not saying China did everything right, but in hindsight it's pretty easy to point the finger at pretty much all of the world's major countries for not doing enough.
Hindsight is 20-20 vision and nobody has it.

Absolutely, but it was on Jan 14. The WHO announced that Chinese authorities saw "no clear evidence of human to human transmission", this was weeks after they discovered the coronavirus was causing these illnesses. China's early actions lead to further spread around the global. The early stages were the most important, and that's when no one gave a damn eventually leading to this huge effort to contain it

Hey, are you dumber than a pigeon?

Sorry, just saw this.
Which one? I'm going to assume that you're talking about the pejorative form of "dumb".
One person knows what the circles are for, but queued up behind a pigeon.
The other was ignorant of the purpose of the circles.

Air Canada in trouble isn't news. But 1.1 billion in the first quarter and a big chunk, 1/2 to 2/3, of that can't be blamed on Corona virus.

Why do you say 1/2 to 1/3 is not Corona related? Because Corona only affected part of the quarter? They mentioned a burn rate of 600 million a month with current operations, it was probably much higher near the beginning when they were still running lots of empty flights. That should mean they see a 2 billion dollar loss in the 2nd quarter.

I'm waiting for some more earning reports to come out and then putting some more money in the markets. Not in airlines. Frig. Saving AC may be way too expensive for a politician to touch (and I think it's a bad idea). Just let them collapse and AC2 comes along and runs the routes free of legacy costs.

I wasn't aware the pre Corona red ink was that deep. They fly underwater so much they should be buying submarines.

Apparently there will be a few stores (hardware, nurseries etc, and golf courses) opening this weekend. What do you all think about it?
Part of me is great I can get some stuff done, but the other part of me feels it's a bit soon as the numbers haven't drastically dropped in daily new cases, today actually they bumped up again from previous day.

Some good funny from Ed The Sock

If they are open for browsing, it's the same concept as grocery stores (limited people in store, stay 6' apart). The govt has drawn a very soft line around essentials only (grocery stores opened their full garden centers weeks ago). Govt shouldnt be picking winners and losers in this mess. I would have preferred they cut galens balls off for being such an entitled prick but they are instead choosing to open up everybody else.

Neiman Marcus filed for chapter 11 today. Ok. Who cares. Read more. Canada Pension Plan bought it in 2013. Mother f'r. So we will have huge debt to pay back and less pension for the govt to garnish.

Can't keep things locked up forever. This is an experiment at this point, so lets see what happens. Hopefully people are smart about things and just go for what they need...not to kill time and browse/clog the aisles.

The value of the fund is 400b at this point so the loss of 6b won't mean dire straits.
