Canadian dollars?
So for the average Canadian old age pensioner, you just wiped out a year or more of their total income on one inoculation ?
... sure hope it doesn't need a booster shot until the next year.

...Bigger concern are the lunatics that are completely opposed to vaccines, particularly for kids.
I guess those kids won't get to go to school.

I always evaluate cost from both ends --

How much if I do? $10,000
How much if I don't? $10,000 / year for as long as I would have lived.

A restaurant owner in Georgia commented since the state removed restrictions he is free to open. If he doesn't but could he can't collect business interruption insurance. His landlord doesn't have to cut the rent. If his employees don't come in they have to be fired and that goes against the owner. Basically it screws the small business owner, coved be damned

Evaluate this:
"OAS benefits are adjusted quarterly in January, April, July, and October based on the prevailing Consumer Price Index. For the second quarter of 2020 (i.e. April to June), the maximum monthly OAS benefit is $613.53."
613.53 x 12 = $7362.36 <- That might be your entire annual income assuming you even qualify for OAS.

Ontario re-opening plan released. I find it almost useless. I assumed we would not be dumb enough to flip the switch and would do a staged approach so there is no useful information that I have seen in this release.

The part that dramatically affects me is school/child care availability in some form. I would guess stage 2 or 3, which puts it ~one to two months out. This seems reasonable. I'm not sure how camps and the like are going to run this summer as it will take some time between telling them they can go and actually having kids attend.

We're going to open carefully then we're going to open more carefully and then a bunch more carefully. Just the specifics we need.

Alberta's started criticizing the Chief Public Health Officer, but not in a way that they can be summarily accused of racism, and dismissed.

I think it shows that the leadership candidate, is still in the placeholder stages, and needs to up his game.

Mistakes have been made by the government, and it shouldn't be mixing politics with the safety of it's citizens.

How far should the CPHO have to tow the party line? In my mind, not at all, but that's probably not realistic.

Was the dithering caused by ignorance, or apathy, or something else? We may never know.

The number of these "yahoos" as doug called them still astounds me, they think just because the death rate is in single percentage digits and considered "acceptable" by them , they should pull a florida and just go yolo with it, afterall, how dare big gubment inconvenience them by telling them to chill at home for a few weeks!?

thats downright communist Orwellian!

What these people don't understand is that the projected confirmed cases and death rate is not a "quota" or a "target".

Just because we are under the projected numbers doesn't mean we need to relax the social distancing rules until we reach the projected numbers.

The goal is to be as far under the projected numbers as possible, not as close to them without being over...

That kind of thinking just leaves me with a headache.

that's the only real thing they know about this virus, keep your distance and minimize your change of catching it, i really don't think it's that hard to do.

the level of selfishness is insane, a few weeks of quasi-inconvenience, vs saving a lot of lives...
at the end of the day, even money is just a piece of paper, and the govt is providing all sorts of relief economically, heck even loans, mortgages, banks and credit card companies, bills etc are putting things on a hold/deferred, but oh no!

They expect me to behave like an adult and avoid crowds for a few weeks!

Kennedy has the same problem I have with Tam. She was the one that got in our woken PM's ear and whispered cultural sensitivity, delaying screening of people coming back on flights from China.

And Freeland has the sniffles @ 0:51 and 0:54 in that video. Why the hell isn't she self quarantining?

Guessing she probably has access to testing like the PMs wife, and has likely already been tested(negative)

I don't think you actually read what I posted based upon your reply. This isn't to do with Yahoos. This is to do with the government mixing science and political science, causing them to make poor choices. The lockdown, getting supplies ready, making a plan, should have happened much sooner. The government is reactionary instead of actionary, and more focused on it's international image at the moment, than it should be. Alberta is going it's own way, simply because the feds have made too many errors. They're going to start testing everyone who has a cough, whereas here in Ontario, unless you know you've been in contact with someone infected, you can't get a test yet. The Prime Minister's wife may be an exception to the rule, which would piss me off.

My understanding is that the testing requirements have changed recently and you no longer need to know someone with a positive test in order to get a test. I think the initial restrictions on that were based around ensuring a steady supply of test kits and making sure those who needed them, had them. They appear to have been too slow to change their criteria though (IMO, I don't know what their supply situation looked like).

A lot of the same people saying they should have been more prepared with a ton of equipment would have been the same people to complain about "government waste" if they had over-prepared and it ended up being nowhere near as serious as it has been.

The thing is that they had a ton of equipment, but it was expired, just like in the U.S.

Now on the site, it links you to individual provincial assessments, if they are available.
Here's my result for the Canada assessment:

"Please self-isolate for 14 days.
All travellers returning to Canada are legally required to self-isolate for 14 days.

After the 14 day period is over, contact your local Public Health Authority to determine whether you still need to stay isolated.

Isolating means not going to any public places, staying at home and not having any visitors. Do not share personal items like dishes, utensils or towels, and wash your hands often.

If your symptoms worsen, or if you are concerned, you can return to this self-assessment at any time; or call Telehealth at any time of the day or night.

Please do not go to an emergency department, family doctor or walk-in clinic unless your symptoms worsen. If you do need to visit an emergency department, family doctor, or walk-in clinic, please call ahead and tell them your symptoms, any international travel within 14 days, and whether you have had close contact with a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19."

The new Ontario one which didn't exist before, says I can call TeleHealth and may be eligible.

613.53 x 12 = $7362.36 <- That might be your entire annual income assuming you even qualify for OAS.

OAS is dependent on how long you've lived in Canada. CPP is dependent on how much you've put in and GIS (Guaranteed Income Supplement) is available if your income is very low. It means you still have to buy cat food but not the dented cans.

Ford has said there is a light at the end of the tunnel but it hasn't been switched on.

This is all about risk factors. Obviously if we just carried on as if it was April 2019 there'd be a ton of dead bodies, let's say 10,000 in a population area.

If every person wore masks but there were no other changes would the number be 1,000, 4,000 or 9,000? What if only half wore masks?

What would the number be if social distancing was added or was the only thing. This is not going away for over another year and some risks have to be taken. Build into that special considerations for those with underlying conditions.

I would like to see stores like HD open and it wouldn't bother me if I had to line up to get in not unlike grocery stores.

Assume a store 100,000 square feet with 50,000 available due to shelving etc. The six foot rule means every person needs about 120 square feet each. 50,000 divided by 120 = theoretically 417 occupants. That may be too many because some departments are busier than others.

What is a tolerable death rate and what is a tolerable health care burden? As long as I'm not one of the stats?

Could the numbers be changed by making masks mandatory? No shirt, no shoes, no mask, no service. Sell N95 masks at cost at the entry.

We are used to seeing pictures of people in China wearing masks even before this. We thought it strange and I felt weird at first when I wore one. We get used to it and masks will be here to stay. How does one mask up at a restaurant?

How does one mask up at a restaurant?
I agree with all your points and good comment. I was thinking about this one and it's a tough one. Sure you can allow for 1/3 or 1/2 capacity of restaurants to maintain social distancing...what do you do about the bathroom? Is the server OK with coming close to people possibly carrying a virus? would you put up plexiglass around the tables? Booths seems like the best option for people to utilize as they're physically separated and people coming in together, will stick together. Put up some taller plexi b/w the booths and you have a possible solution.

But the bathroom issue remains. Hire someone to clean the thing up/down? Or just the entrance to the bathroom as theoretically the exit door should be clean...hell maybe we'll have more people cleaning their hands after using the toilet nowadays.

Forget restaurants for a while, nobody can sanitize in real time, the server just touched your plate and set out your eating utensils right after the cook, then the clean up person is going to pick up your dirty plate and you want to send that person into the bathroom to do what, wipe down all the countertops and toilet seats? That would be no more risky then a laboratory worker in an infection control lab eating lunch at their work station.

Saw a funny about this yesterday, damned if I can find it now...
A server, staying outside social distancing rules, throwing plates onto a table. Plates breaking, food everywhere. And then came the drinks....
