its close to ammonium chloride but not quite. Benzalkonium chloride.

There's many different "flavours" of chlorides used.

Read up on "quats".

/.....oh the useless crap I learn hauling all the crap people are now hoarding. ;)

Talked to my pharmacist yesterday. He has had a lot of people coming in for first aid treatment for minor burns from home made sanitizer. Soap and water kills Covid19.

Nothing like splashing on pure alcohol while having a smoke.

Look at the percentages and some of it is just to make it smell, may contain up to 7.5% active ingredients.
Ingredient%
ethanol
D-Glucopyranose, oligomeric, C9-11-alkyl glycosides
Quaternary ammonium compounds, benzyl-C12-16-alkyldimethyl, chlorides

0.5 - 1.5

They are quaternary ammonium compounds but they aren’t generally made from ammonia. Also, for most of them to kill the virus you need to wait 10-20 minutes after contact. It’s not immediate.

So the costco wipedown of carts and then handing them over is useless? Amazing.

No, it’s better than nothing but the contact times for these quaternary cleaners are listed as a variety of times depending on concentration. None of them are instantaneous it seems.

Theres a document that’s I found that lists contact times for disinfectants. Some are very quick, some take up to 20 minutes.

"Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam says that while there are regional differences between outbreaks in different provinces, her team suggests somewhere between 2.5 and 5 per cent of Canada’s population will eventually become infected with the novel coronavirus.

Her sitting on her culturally sensitive hands back in January didn't help things.

"The traveller was allowed to leave freely, equipped with a form that explained what he ought to do should his symptoms get worse, Tam said. His family called 911 the next day and he was taken to hospital when he did feel worse.

Tam said the situation was handled reasonably by the officer, given the passenger’s condition."

Lies. All of it.

Monday’s description of the man’s arrival in Toronto differed sharply from the account provided earlier.

When asked at a press briefing Sunday if the man reported symptoms to border-service agents at the Toronto airport, Tam responded, “This patient was not reported to us, no.”

What the heck is going on with the stock market??

Green green green during this pandemic??

The people who shorted back when the talking heads were downplaying the severity are buying back in.

Some stores are sanitizing the back of the pile and people are taking carts off the front giving a long contact time. Other stores are sanitizing and then that cart immediately goes with a customer. It sounds like a simple procedure change could make a difference.

that’s something I didn’t think about but it makes sense.

Re stock market - Speculation on a relatively early resumption of normal - which I think is optimistic.

I bailed out of everything except companies involved in services and products that we will need during and after this situation.

i dont get why people are so crazy about sanitizer
theres a cheap and WIDELY avaialble solution (pun intended) but people want the sanitizer...

i remember when i was stuck at sick kids with my son... yes there was hand sanitizer here and there...but it was all about cleaning your hands...not sanitizing them. Sanitizing doesnt get dirt of your hands, you're just rubbing that in. At least with soap, you rinse, clean, and rinse off the dead particles/bacteria/dirt.

Sanitizer works in a pinch... but shouldnt be relied on as your main way to fight it IMO

There’s money to be made on companies that were oversold during the initial panic.

And reality is that eventually things will return to normal.

That’s the way the stock market works.

Trying to decide if the virus or the fine print attached to EI's income replacement for self employed are more menacing.
Seriously though if you are self employed and thinking about applying read the conditions first.
