That's exactly my point. If the tenant knows they are sunk, they have time to clean out everything of value and the landlord cant do anything if that goes through. Normally, the landlord can lock the business as incentive to pay or assets to sell.

Just went out for a 20min ride alone. First ride this year. Passed 3 separate groups of riders. At least 8 in each. Lots of people out today. Normal amount of cars on the road north of the city. Roads were extremely quiet all week but not today.

Is Canadian Tire closing? Their site has been down since this afternoon....'Very busy' is the notice.

Unless a retailer sells food, they're going to be restricted to on-line or curbside sales, so-called "alternative" sales routes. I'm thinking that's going to affect Canadian Tire, and it won't affect Walmart because they have a food section.

Afaik curbside pickup or delivery only. Again, govt closed in the future so there is a huge rush for people to get their paint. How many times does this have to happen for govt to learn?

HD has had the option for curbside pickup for about a week now. Which is fine with me. So long as you know what you want to buy. Same goes for CT. If they keep it open with just the curbside / online deliveries then I guess it's ok.

But I figure it's time to start shutting it all down.

It is possible that Wally World will have to cordon off the non food sections.

Ages ago when there were Sunday closings stores under a certain size were allowed to open. Canadian Tire opened one of their stores but it was counter service only, thus under the limit. You stood in line and told someone what you wanted and they got it for you. No browsing. It didn't last long.

I want seeds and soil so what’s the best way to do this now? Can I just browse Can tire online, order my stuff and pick it up or have it delivered (soil bags too?)? Not sure how it’s going to work. I’d like a nice functional garden so I can rely less on the grocery stores for fresh produce. Just planted 30 tomato seed lots this morning. More to come in the next few days.

on the up side...I just found 1L of unopened tequila behind my scotch pile.....it’s margarita time!

We are buying 1 yard of those big yellow bags with soil inside. They're doing deliveries from April 8 - 22nd but taking orders right now. About $160/y3.

I was going to plant in grow bags this year as it works really well, basically cut slits on the top of a sealed bag of soil and make a few holes underneath for drainage, put 3 plants per bag of soil in, stake and put the bags wherever you like. This will let me use more of the garden and also put veggies in the front garden. Loose soil would be handy if I was digging more permanent beds. Basically I just want 20 sealed bags of soil.

edit. Overthinking this...Loblaws sells bags of soil

BTW Lowe's has free delivery. I wish I knew that before ordering from Home Depot

Part of the problem is that you don't have a view into the kitchen as they're preparing it.

We've been getting food from the local places that we'd like to stay in business and picking it up ourselves.

Mandarin had a novel approach, going from a buffet style to one where you pay online,
and then pick up your order from a table that's blocking entrance through the door.
(You don't even see the person bring the food to the door, unless you're early.)
Mandarin? The last place I'd be buying takeout from is a hot table buffet where food si

Seeds are easy to get mail order.

It's planting time for some things this weekend -- radishes and lettuce get seeded into my outside gardens now, then again every 10 days till may 15st. You can also plant onions kale, cabbage and lettuce directly in the garden now. I usually don't bother with tomatoes and cukes -- they are $20c a plant from the local nursery -I plant 20 tomatoes and 20 cukes which yeild well over 100lbs of vegies for $10.

My indoor light garden has flowers that cost a lot to buy and stuff I can't buy. Tier 1 has some exotic peppers (Carolina reapers and some stupidly hot variety I brought back from Trinidad), tier 2 has the expensive exotics garden flowers that cost way too much, tier 3 has the not for sale garden stuff - castor beans, trumpet plants, tier 420 is secret.

I have a friend who is heavily into heritage and weird strains of tomatoes. I’ve planted 8 different varieties so far. Arugula, lettuce, spinach will be going in the next few days. I want the soil bags so I can rest most of my veggie beds this year. Had some nasty rot going on with toms last year. Think the soil is exhausted and I don’t have too much compost to add in. I planted in grow bags in the uk and if done right you can get heavy yields and plant on pathways, unused areas of the garden etc. The balance between drainage and water retention is key.

I was out for an hour today, had to drop my office keys off to a co-worker who was packing her stuff to WFH. It's quite desolate on the roads around here, had a got of trouble with my internal governor - I can see why traffics tickets are up while driving is down.
