Copy of the M Test (M2X) checklist!

Asking you to do a lane change isn't a demand to "do it now". Part of what the examiner is observing is your judgement skills. He needs you to do a lane change in each direction on two separate highway sections. It's up to you to determine if it's safe. On many routes, the highway sections are short and they have to give the directions when possible. It's not up to them to determine if it's safe, it's your responsibility. That should have been part of his preamble, and it should have been included in the directions to a lane change: "Mudhudhudhu, when it's safe to do so, please do a lane change to the left, and a lane change back to the right. A lane change left and right when it's safe to do so." That's not a trick.
Congratulations anyway, you obviously did it correctly!

Yes, the 2nd time he wasn't testing if I could actually do one (I had demonstrated that just seconds earlier), he was testing my judgement. All's well, that ends well!

If you're counting the lane change when you entered the highway, that doesn't count. The examiner still needs to see separate lane changes to the left and right, independent of the merging/exiting changes.
As you say, it ended well, so congratulations again - as an examiner, I like to ensure that people understand the requirements and why certain directions are given, rather than believe it was random or they got lucky (or unlucky!)

How can somebody become an examiner?
That depends on whether you want to be a DriveTest employee, or do it through a school. As an instructor, my MTO signing authority is only valid when it's for students of our programs.
Instructors have to be senior enough to get signing authority for the M1 Exit test (the MOST test is commonly used), then they can train for the M2 Exit. So for experienced senior instructors, it's a 4 day MTO course. I don't know of any other way to do it. After the initial qualilfication, we have to go through refreshers every two years.

Is it mandatory to wear full gear for the test?

At DriveTest, I'm not sure how much discretion they have - I'm pretty sure the only mandatory safety gear is a helmet.
If it's at a safety course, it's up to them. I'm pretty sure we're all the same though - full gear mandatory for the course and test.

I see. Thank you for the info!

Passed it in Brampton. It was pretty simple. The hardest part of the whole test was just being able to get that stupid ear piece in my helmet. I have a narrow oval head shape and my helmet is snug fitting. Each time I tried to slide my helmet over with the ear piece in, it felt like the ear clip was going to rip my ear off. Eventually, I just ditched the ear clip and squeezed the ear piece in between the helmet and my ear and prayed that it would just hold.

Did the M2 Exit at Aurora and passed. I thought it was pretty easy. Aurora has a fairly easy route.

Just passed my M2 exit today at noon, and Brampton! Passed with flying colours. This thread was EXTREMELY helpful to help prepare myself for it. As long as you exaggerate your blind spot checks and keep your blocking position…you’ll be guaranteed a PASS! The route was exactly as mentioned in this thread.</SPAN>
-Steeles to 410 North</SPAN>
-then exit on Clark Blvd and go back on to 410 S back to Steeles</SPAN>
-right on Steeles then right to Kennedy road</SPAN>
-Left at the flashing light after Rambler, then do emergency stop</SPAN>
- then he took me back to Drive test centre…and DONE!</SPAN>
** the entire test took 15 mins **</SPAN>

The only thing that worried me today was the drizzling rain, and high winds…but that didn’t get me down! I’m so pumped that I finally have my full ‘M’!!! Good luck all!</SPAN>

Anyone planning on doing their M2 exit this spring? Just thought I'd revive this thread as there were some very helpful tips on here! Good luck to those that are going for the test! I love seeing the 'GM' on my license! :)

Just finished reading through 30 pages... I just moved to Ontario and was granted a M2 as an equivalent to my full license in Quebec. I did the road test 2 years ago over there and will go my M2 exit this spring. I just hope I didn't pick to many bad habits but I have over 40000km of experience in the last 3 years so it should help me pass this test easily.

I just grabbed the motorcycle handbook from the library today to go through it quickly in case MTO has some specifics that I am not expecting. With that + 30 pages of this thread, I think I'll be ready.

When will we be able to book a test? On DriveTest website, I saw that I can take my test from May 1st to October 15th but the system does not allow me to book it yet.

I am about to book my M2 exit test. Cant find much info on the in parking lot testing. What's involved with that? Im assuming that happens before the road test? any help would be appreciated.

They just check your lights and horn to make sure they work in the parking lot.

There is no skills to test there.

Ok, I though,t there was something similar to the M1 exit, with the figure 8 driving etc. But I guess that was only for the M1 Exit.. Thanks for the reply.

I'm looking at doing mine. Not sure which facility would be best. I live in Vaughan so I am thinking of going to either the Brampton or Aurora MTO. Any suggestions which is better?

I'm not sure I understand the MTO system for appointments (first time I use it). I looked at all centres in the central region to schedule my M2 Exit and the only thing available is 8:55AM sometime in July in Aurora.... Will there be more dates offered earlier than that and at other centres at some point?

I can only speak for the Brampton location...and it was pretty easy. Like I said....google it..and you'll find the actual route. they pretty much take you on the highway for one exit...then to a residential neighbourhood for an emergency stop.....then back to the test facility....that's it!

Good luck.

M2X test in Brampton

Has anyone been able to book a M2X test at the Brampton DriveTest Centre this year?

I've been trying to book an appointment using the online system for a little while and it always tells me that there are no time slots available and to try another centre.
