Copy of the M Test (M2X) checklist!

Hey everyone,

I'm doing my M test at the Brampton location on Monday. I had some questions that I was hoping someone may be able to clarify for me.

1) Is this still the Brampton route? https://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl...7655&sspn=0.042015,0.114155&ie=UTF8&z=14&om=1

2) At an intersection with a green light, the car ahead of you has already pulled into the intersection. Do you stay behind the white line, or can you pull up behind him/her (and into the intersection) as well?

3) Is this the correct procedure before switching lanes: i) Look at both mirrors + blind spot, Signal, Look at both mirrors + blind spot again, changes lanes

4) Turning from a single lane to a multi-lane (or vice versa). You're riding your blocking position, but once you finish turning, you're no longer in the blocking position. At this point, you switch to the blocking position, and then into the slow lane (if in a multi-lane). Is this correct?

5) As per the motorcycle handbook: When approaching an intersection and an oncoming vehicle is signalling for a left turn you should take a defensive lane position, slow down and move to the right of the lane. Is this rule still in practice? I don't often see motorcyclist doing this, and I don't want to be dinged during the test.

Thanks for your help GTAM!

Hey there I would stay at the white line and when the way is clear move and turn as if the light turns red your not in it

As for switching lanes you got it right

Turning to a multi lane yes get to your blocking lane aka tire track

As for the handbook if it's in the book it must be right lol I did my test and did not do it never lost a point

Passed! Thanks to all that contributed to this thread. All of the Brampton info is pretty much still current, including the route options.

Testers probably use different routes but just variations of the same roads. Generally the route you mapped is the same roads you will see. Differences may be exiting on Clark from 410 North instead of Queen, turning right on Bartley Bull instead of left, etc. As for the rest just ride safe and within the speed limit and you'll be fine, don't worry about the little details...assuming you've got the basics down (from a motorcycle training course).

Passed my test. Lost a majority of my points for riding too slow. lol

I guess the biggest difficulty is your controlling your nerves. It's also a good idea to check out the area before you do your test. I did my test at the Brampton location and sometimes found it hard to identify the speed limit sign and where lanes begin/end/merge with all the construction going on in that area.

Still uncertain about tire track position when making a left turn...

If coming from a left turn lane where there is a passing lane beside you on the right, should you be in the left tire track or right when at the intersection? And if it is a single road left turn, should you be in the left tire track or right?

Thx.

Same tire track as if you were riding straight. After the turn if the road configuration is different (ie single to double or vice versa) then change tire tracks if needed.

Passed the M test today at Aurora. Only got dinged a couple of minors one was a little brain fart at an intersection somehow in wrong blocking position in residential then gave it a bit much in 1st in frustration which took me to 45km/hr in a 40. Was not too difficult but make sure you tape the earpiece well over your ear I had a hell of a job hearing/understanding him & mine is a quiet bike with a shoei qwest full face helmet.

Shoulder checks mirrors & looking for danger should be exaggerated & keep in the right blocking position & you wont go far wrong.

The route was pretty much similar to mentioned before on here from Henderdson South on Yonge to Bloomington,Bloomington to 404, N on 404 (2 lane changes) to Wellington,West on wellington ( 2 lane changes along the way) right into Berczy (did stop on Berczy about half way down) , Right off Berczy into Metcalfe st, First left into Edward ST the rest is a bit fuzzy (where I had my brain fart lol) I will do a re-run over the weekend & post the rest of the route.

Passed my M2 exit yesterday afternoon at brampton.

For an emergency stop first indicate right and come to a stop and then turn your Hazzard lights on. Got dinged for going straight to Hazzard lights.

Exaggerate left right left expecially at intersection. I got dinged here. I thought I had exaggerated.

The earlier piece hurt like he'll everytime I did a mirror check and especially when I did shoulder checks.

If you have any specific questions I would be glad to answer.

Passed my M2X yesterday here in Barrie

Was super easy overall.. only got 3 marks, 2 for apparently missing hazards and the third he said " I was falling asleep in the car so I marked that last left you did a little wide" and I know which turn he meant.. it was wider then the tire track, but still well within my lane and within the law.

All and all he was a nice guy.. answered all my questions the best he could previous to the test.. gave clear directions with plenty of notice and repeated everything twice so there was no confusion.

It's all been said before.. but exaggerate your head movements.. mind your speed and your tire track.. just relax and ride.

If anyone has any questions about the Barrie route or anything else, post up or pm me while it's fresh in my mind!

Proud GM owner. Passed my M2X in Brampton this afternoon. Thank God for this forum 5 years on and still relevant.

Hi Guys, I'll be doing my M2X in Hamilton the first week of July. I just had a couple questions after reading the checklist...

1. Under the "Through Intersection" portion, there is an item for "No Brake Light." Does this mean you should apply the brakes as you approach the intersection?

2. When are blind spot checks required? Of course they're required for lane changes, and turns, but are you required to check your blind spot when coming to a stop and when leaving from a stop? I seem to remember something like this from the M2 safety course.

3. When pulling over for the emergency stop, should you leave your right signal on or cancel it after you've come to a stop? I don't have 4-way lights so I'm wondering what to do here.

Thanks very much.

Hello everyone,

I took my M2X at the DriveTest centre in Guelph. As an earlier report stated, the maximum speed on Hwy 6 is 70kph. I lost 4 points overall. I was nervous at first but as soon as we left the lot, it was smooth sailing.

The checklist was an added bonus. I even had it on my iPhone minutes before I left. One tip of advice I was told by one of the locals, be sure to slow down at railroad tracks and look left and right.

Add another woman GM holder to the road. Just passed in Burlington, despite taking the wrong highway exit lol
Thanks to everyone who posted tips. In the end it was just be safe and enjoy the ride.

Just passed my M2X at Downsview today before noon. Second time taking it as first time failed from dangerous action lol. If you have any questions i'm subscribed to this thread!

Hi, just wanted to check this out. Are you sure they have to pass you if you don't do a lane change? I'm doing my M2X later this month and I would like to be sure about this. Would really appreciate you getting back to me.

Congrats on passing. What was the dangerous action you did the first time. Looking for tips on what not to do. Many thanks

Hi and Congrats on passing. How was the highway part. I'm sort of freaked out about changing lanes at those high speeds. What speed were you doing when you changed lanes? Any tips on this. Should I just wait for a super large gap to open up?????
Thanks for any help you can be.
