Copy of the M Test (M2X) checklist!

Thanks for posting these up. They will be much appreciated by people who do their road tests in Oshawa.

question : i have two rear brake bulbs. sometime's the right side doens't work due to fussy wire. if it should happen to act up on test day and i only have 1 of 2 brake bulb's working will that be an issue for the "safety" of will the fact that i still have a functional rear brake bulb on the left side allow me to continue ? opinion's or would i have to contact the mto ?

My gut tells me it would be an issue. All lights (& horn) must be functional and that will be the first thing they check before you go out on the road. You may want to call the MTO but more importantly I would be getting it fixed. After all it's not just a test issue, it may save your life one day.

Good luck with the test, just relax and you'll be fine. It's not difficult at all as long as you relax and may sure you check your mirrors and blind spots constantly.

Cheers

Thank you everyone who has contributed to this thread.... had my road test for the full M today in Brampton and did awesome. Only marks against were for checking both ways before the intersection, I do check, I just don't think I had enough head movement for the examiner to see it.

I was nervous and didn't think I would pass. The only preparation I did was to read this thread the night before. OH, and ride the M2 to within weeks of expiration! After the test I can say if you ride like your supposed to, always checking, always safe and always aware you will be fine... its really not a difficult test.

Good luck if your taking it and thanks if you shared your experience.

Just finished the M2 Exit at Humber (hershey centre). Amazing course, amazing instructors. Was told I was "extremely composed" on the road and an excellent rider. Got 2 points (following too close on a left, and not looking at a hazard).

It is not a difficult test at all, just relax and you will pass. Everyone in my group (10 ppl) passed, and more than half were below average riders...

Good luck everyone!

Going for my M2 exit test in a week, so....Question: if the bike is higher than my height, so when i am on the bike i can not put my feet flat on the ground, but can only stay on tip toes, how is it possible to put foot flat on the ground, and not shift weight of bike? From what i gathered by reading the thread is thats one of requirements. Any comments on that one? Thx

Also, whats the max amount of points can you score while still being able to pass the test?

Thx

You're allowed to take one or both feet off the pegs at a stop. The brakes have to be continuously applied while stopped. The easiest way to achieve this is to touch down with your left foot and keep your right foot applying the back brake, clutch in at all times while stopped. Your bike will be leaning but that does not count against you in the test whatsoever.

when turning right on a green from the blocking position into the blocking position of the new lane does anyone think it would be bad to cut the apex of the turn like i would do normally or should i "round" the corner in an arc from the left tire track of each lane ?

btw , anyone know the route for kitchener or have any remark's about that location ?

I would not cut the apex. It isn't a race course so you're not trying to find the best line through the corner. In the examiner criteria document (link above), it says, "Drive in the tire track that will give you the most visibilty of the road ahead...If the curve is right, keep as far left as possible". So, I'd start in left blocking, maintain a constant distance during the curve and end in the left blocking position.

hey all, i passed in kitchener if anyone need's the general route. biggest problem was losing the examiner's car in traffic but you just gotta let them work their way back. worst part of test is regular driver's breaking all the law's and putting your test in jeopardy. i had a guy change lane's in an intersection as i had just taken my lane on a right turn so i had to gun it to not make it look like a near collision. also a j-walking kid was another problem in the residential portion, had to pretend it was a crosswalk for him; idiot. the key is just to do what you hear them tell you to do. they alway's preface their instruction's when "it's safe to do so". so, just do it when clear and wait if you have to make sure you are totally in the clear.

Thanks for the checklist! Passed @ Vic Park location.

Not complaining, but I got marks ticked off for going a bit slow (5 kms less) - but the roads were wet...hmmm :S

This thread has been a great help for a parking lot poser like myself.
Oshawa route is exactly as listed in post 411.
There are NO other videos for Oshawa on Youtube. Just one guy in Brampton.

I made these videos and am posting them here to help the community.
For those of you who don't have the time to scope out the area beforehand or just want a heads up of what it's like.

Flamers about my riding can stuff it. It's tough trying to ride "properly" when you have a lot of bad habits.

6 errors. 1 for "tire track" during a lane change. the other 5 for not looking/head movement/blindspot etc...

Hope this helps and good luck to anyone going for their M

thanks for the video..they'd be extremely helpful when it's time to do mine at that location

I have to take my appointment soon for mine, otherwise I'll have to do it next year. So I have one question, do we hear them clearly? The last time I went for my M1 exit course the woman wasn't happy when I asked her to repeat herself, I asked that once and I got a not so nice reply saying that I should have gone to Kingston to get it in French...
And what do you do if the ear set drops?
Thanks for the video, I'll look at them, re-read blocking lane and try to do that until I do my test.

No problem. This thread helped me out so I wanted to contribute. There are/were no videos of the Oshawa route on Youtube before my test so I spent some time scrolling around on Google Maps Streetview.

Hopefully this will save you the hassle of doing that.

The route is exactly as in post 411.

Relax and good luck.

I had an issue with the earphone not fitting well in my ear. My ear was too big or something and it kept falling out so one of the examiners used a bandaid and stuck it to my ear. He was very nice and apologetic but I didn't care. I was so nervous/anxious I just wanted it working and wanted to get it over with.

You can adjust the volume of the headset to your comfort level yourself and they'll do a mic check.

I used a tip from a previous post and put an earplug in my other ear.

I have a known issue with earphones. When I'm riding, after a few shoulder checks, my LEFT earbud sometimes gets tugged out. This is because of the chin strap on my helmet. Because of this, I placed the earpiece in my RIGHT ear but YMMV.

I was also instructed that if I could not hear the instructions well that I was to tap my helmet with my left hand and they would repeat the directions.
