Pretty sure the all start off in cruisers then apply for other vehicles or horses when spots open up.

Any members Cops? Do you drive a car or ride a motorcycle? - Do you get to choose?

There are a number of police on the board, some openly identify themselves as such, others let it slip. I haven't heard of any member identifying themselves as a motorcycle cop.

Each thing you listed is for a different department. When they get hired on they start in a cruiser and can go for different departments, i.e. traffic is motorcycles. (no I'm not a cop)

No, they don't.
I haven't seen any cops in uniform on the ttc, however yes they do get to ride for free. Off duty is another story.

The law enforcement on TTC property are the TTC Special Constables hired by the TTC.

Also from the same Wikipedia page,

"On October 21, 2010 the Toronto Police Services Board voted in favor of the cancellation of the Special Constable program effective February 1, 2011. At the same time the Board approved the expansion of the Toronto Police Transit Patrol Unit. It is expected that the existing Special Constables will become security guards or bylaw enforcement officers, tasked primarily with fare evasion and by-law offenses."

oh... thats interesting.. so they'll just get on their radio and call 911 just as we the public would do..
the other interesting thing is that means that the Fines are more interesting to them then general safety.

I know at least one female officer (with OPP) is a member here, although I don't think she has posted much over the last few years. She was doing Motorcycle patrol last year but didn't get it in 2011.

Earlier this year at an OPP Golden Helmets demonstration I asked one of the first-year team members what he rode as his personal bike. He said he did not have a bike and had never ridden a motorcycle until joining the OPP.

He had originally wanted to get into one of the marine units but was told nothing was available and was instead offered a position with a motorcycle unit.

He obviously noted the quizzical look on my face and said he accepted the position because he wanted to do something different. Rookie rider or not, all members go through an extensive training program so he thought what the heck - why not give it a try.

From what I've been told, the OPP prefer to train officers who've never ridden before. No bad habits to break.

i always wonder about this... if they drive every freaken shift they hardly get enough exercise. Do they have some mandatory work out days?

even in downtown toronto, i never see them walking on the street except for G20. do they have foot patrols at all on a regular daily basis?
