Neither.

PC gaming just got a whole lot more interesting with AMD actually stepping up. No point in paying $500 + tax with a gaming specific system. I'd rather do a rebuild (probably $2000-$3000 or so) of my PC since it's my work, play, and sim system.

Already have a decent ultralight work laptop and no interest in a desktop or large gaming rig. I used to play on PC but console gaming is just more convenient

Likelihood of a Black Friday switch sale?

This WFH no vacation thing has to have an upside. My wife even said she’d like to try a few games (console...get your mind out the gutter).

Low. The Switch has a reputation for never having much of a discount applied to it

I find it less convenient tbh.

Now, I will eventually get a PS5 for the same reason I have a PS4....stick XIM Technologies – Official site of XIM Technologies advanced gaming products this in, plug in a mouse and keyboard, and get off at all the hate mail coming my way when my buddies and I team up. The auto aim on console shooters is too strong. I remember playing Titanfall 2 and Black Ops 4 on PS4 with the XIM and it felt like a legit aimbot; throw mouse in general direction of enemy, hold left click, they're gonna die.

In a condo you often have one work/entertainment station setup. In a house, you often try to separate the stations. Ps3 is in the basement with surround sound and a sub. If that was in the office it would be no bueno due to proximity to bedrooms. I dont want to put another computer in the basement.

I've always lived in a "single room" peasant setup. There's usually a main monitor, and a secondary TV. But I've never had issues, since my university days, with pulling a perfect GPA in the same room I'll be fragging in in the evening. I know many people do....it's probably similar to not wanting to listen to music you normally **** to lolol

The convivence factor I was referring to is more from the software side. Consoles restrict third party peripherals and are closed systems; if there's something I want to do with the console, I can't unless it supports it. PC, as most know, is an open system. If there's a problem and I can't find a solution on Google, I'll fix it myself. And most of my peripherals won't work on consoles.

Also...and this is a HUUUUUUGE point for me: If I want to turn Skyrim into a AAA hentai game with cow tits everywhere, I can. If I think the SJWs ****** with Lara Croft's face, ass and tits too much, I can "fix it." If I want my wife to walk in and ask "honey, why the **** is there a 2000 year old vampire anime chick that looks like high school girl on your screen with no panties on?!" I can lol

In my University (and early post University years) I rebuilt and upgraded many PCs. At that time a PC was a source of gaming and was my main productivity tool (especially since I did a B.A. and wrote so many essays).

Back then you had to upgrade a computer just to play Doom; let alone run Windows 3.11 or Windows 95 after that. Perhaps it is my older eyes or that consoles are a lot more capable than they used to be but now I like the "plug and play" element of a console.

I can't argue with the power of an up to date computer though. Want VR? Build your own rig. Want ultimate graphics and gaming? Build your own rig.

Want something that will just work with little to no headaches? Buy a modern console.

Hey, I'm not knocking on consoles or anything. I have every PlayStation and most Nintendo systems lol

With the way I tinker with ****, consoles don't always end up working though. I have one buddy who literally buys two of every system for that reason! And yeah.....I remember the 3.11, 95 days, even DOS. I was 9~ or so and already loved that world. I started with an Apple 2 sometime before I was 4~

For someone as adept with hardware, software, and coding I totally see why you go primarily the PC route.

I have never hacked a console and I literally go back to the Atari 2600 days.

Systems I have had:
Atari 2600
Colecovision
NES
Sega Genesis plus Sega CD and 32X
PS1
PS2
PS3
PS4
Wii
Wii U
Switch

First PC was late 1980s. 286 12 MHz.
Upgraded to 386 and 486.

After that I started to buy middle level PCs and changing them out every 5 to 7 years. Same with laptops. There is a guy in Guelph that runs a computer shop out of his basement. I pick up a used laptop from him every so many years.

My (soon to be) 50 year old eyes just can't be bothered with swapping cards etc. When I was farting around with PCs through the early through late 1990s they used to have dip switches for the IRQs. Thankfully later boards could.configure themselves or via drivers. I remember putting my first sound card in. Wolfenstein 3D cranked through my ghetto blaster by running the 3.5 cable into the AUX input in my ghetto blaster. Computer speakers were barely a thing back then. Heck, to have a CD ROM in your computer was an esoteric thing at one time. I remember when I had to add a 3.5" drive in addition to my 5.25" drive as the software trend was more to the "large capacity" 1.44 MB 3.5" diskettes. Lol...

Kids all thought like you. They all have a tower PC gaming rig now.

when my younger family members come over I wanna be able to kick their butts in multiplayer on the big screen chillin on the sofasjust like how we use to as kids etc surround sound seems like a awesome idea and pc seems more solo ish like your on your gaming chair in front of ur monitor

Our Switch gets a decent amount of use. Easy to bring on a camping trip to hook up to the 24" Samsung or use in portable mode to blow some time off. Most games look good on our "old" 60" 1080p TV.

I still game a lot on the old PS3 and the PS4.

I have held off on a 4K TV. The PS5 will be the perfect excuse to move to the newer tech. 4K gaming out of the box and a 4K Bluray player on board. Apparently HDR is just a dramatic improvement as the resolution. I am a bit of a movie buff so the problem is that I am going to want to upgrade my Kubricks etc to 4K Blurays.

Not sure how many 4k channels Cogeco has. I guess it would be some Netflix in 4k and some sports that make 4k somewhat viable now.

if you want the most outta the experience it's a 4k 120 hz u want the regular 4ks will run at 60 fps which is probably fine for most people,
I'm gonna do like exoex and just wait it out till the deals and gaming selection are better and those 4k 120 hz are cheaper...
and it looks like no one is botherin with the xbox lol

We have six computers networked. Only difference is that you are in separate rooms, and can't mess with the console to throw others off. Since everybody now has headsets, you can still tell them how great you are.

For sure I am going the 120 Hz route. Like HDR I want the proper tech and specs to last awhile.

Sounds you had LAN parties. My dad loved tech so we always had 4-6 computers with GPUs (I don't know how...we aren't rich lol)

We had to move ppl around depending on which teams because people, including me, are pieces of **** and screen watch for FPS games.

bruhhh i'd rather put that to a ffuture motorcycle upgrade LOL
When I used to ride, $2-$3k was nothing T_T...that's less than a season's worth of track day fees. It's the only reason I quit, gotta build a future and ****. On the plus side....gaming is so much cheaper!

damn you got 6 different computer rooms?
Kids all have one in their bedroom for studying & gaming. Three in the basement; two at separate desks, and the oldest one hooked up to the treadmill with a tv screen.

I started consoles with Pong, Intellivision, Vic20 (computer), C64 (computer), N64, Gamecube, Wii. First Intel computer was a Compaq 386.
Once Quake came out, that was enough for first-person shooters for me for a while. Jedi Knight on the PC was the next I think.

C64 at 8 years old>286>486>P133 with MMX?>K6-2 333 with 3DNOW! then a plethora of consoles and computers.

My parents refused to buy me an NES, said i'd sit inside all day. Well that plan backfired, i sat inside all day on the PC instead ?
